Hi all,

I'm looking for a scope recommendation for an Armalite AR-15. Is there anything else people are using that they'd recommend? Thanks in advance.

Tommeh,

Like any thread where a guy(or gal) is asking for advice. We need to know what your intended purpose is for the rifle/setup. Some additional details about the rifle would also help.

Top of the line would be:
S&B short dot
Night Force NSX
ACOG TA series
AIMPOINT (non-magnified)
EOtech (non-magnified)
EOtech 3x magnifier for above, also can be used with AIMPOINT
Leupold tactical scopes VARI-X ##
Trijicon Accu-point
....

Thanks for the reply gang. I only looked at Leapers as the compact little scopes looked like a nice idea. I tried searching for some older posts regarding this and came up empty, but perhaps I was looking for the wrong thing.. I have a Nightforce NSX for my rifle, a Sako TRG-22 so my little AR is only for short range fun (25-300m max). So I'm looking for a compact scope that would fit that bill. Price range is $100-400 I don't think I'd want to spend more than that, I already have a red dot for it.

As for the rifle it is an Armalite AR-15, 14.5 inch barrel, adjustable 3 point stock, carry handle and I have a Picatinny adapter for that handle.

Again, what's your intended purpose? Action sports, SHTF rifle, precision rig etc etc. If you're looking at mounting a magnified optic to the carry handle, you're going to pay the price at short range with such a dramatic offset between line of sight and your bore line.

Not a precision rig at all... just some action sports, short range tactical stuff, etc... nothing fancy I've got other toys for that. I definitely agree that I'd pay the price at short range with magnification however if it's 25-50 meters I could easily swap it out for my red dot that works fine.

What kinda of red dot is this? EoTech or Aimpoint? If so, a 3 or 4X magnifier would fit the bill properly. :D

I'd stick with a low or no magnification optic. EoTech, Aimpoint, Trijicon reflex, Trijicon Accupoint, etc etc. No need to waste the magnification and money on a variable power optic if you can't run it at low or no magnification. A magnifier for your current red dot is a good plan as well.
