Hey guys, looking for a little advice ln removing my silhouette sight from my Norc AQ ar 15. Are the two pins in the base easily removed with a punch or is there some dremel grinding required? Thanks for any feedback that can be offered.
Rascal :)

Hit and miss on a norc ive knocked some out easy enough with a punch and a hammer with a few good swings and ive had some where I had to cut the front sight off with cut off disk your mileage may vary.

To remove it while trying to reuse it, the pins are tapered so you will need to ensure you are trying to hammer them out in the right direction. You will need a good drift punch, a nice heavy hammer and some elbow grease. Don't use a pin punch or you will just ruin them.

If you don't plan on reusing it, go to town on it with a cutoff tool or grinder.

If you are going to use a long handguard that will cover it and don't want to buy a low profile gas block, you can cut off the sight post and bayonet lug and grind it down with a dremel and grinder.

Here's someone's cut down A2 gas block.

Ok thanks guys. If I am understanding this, the sight incorporates the gas block. Might just be easier for me to get a taller set of rings for my optic that to screw with this sight as it is so high.

correct. If you're planning on removing the front sight completely so you dont co-witness with your new optics, you will need a low profile gas block to replace it.

Another couple options include going taller on the rings (can do a 1/3 cowitness if you'd want), or chopping the front post off and grinding it into a low-profile. I will be giving this option a whirl shortly. Will also allow me to get rid of the Delta ring at the same time, and run a free float handguard.

Thanks, I am just learning this platform after switching over from the M14 style of rifle. Maybe let me know how that goes for you and post some pics if you can. I doesn't really see a need to cowitness for me so if it is gone or at least cut down, it might be good enough.

I put Kroil on my pins every day for a few days. They slide out with minimal effort after that. The barrel needed to be touched up with some emery for the new gas block to slide on without the hammer.
