Ok gentlemen, i have a A2 colt upper with a fixed carry handle and a 20inch barrel.
I want to put that barrel on a flat top upper. If there's no groove near the extension nut in my colt receiver, that receiver is a rifle model. Is that right? So if I take a M4 model, I have simply to change the extension nut and it would be ok. Or do you now a brand of upper that are available in rifle style in flat top.

Thanks for the help.

Can you post a picture? I'm trying to figure out what groove you are talking about.
You should be able to install your barrel, barrel nut, port door, forward assist, charge handle, and BCG across to any other AR upper (other than a Norinco upper)

Ok here is the colt upper. Look the upper near the extension nut near the mag. There's no groove to follow the groove of the extention nut. Second picture is a standard M4 upper look the difference.

I think i have a ''Colt Rifle Upper'' as I read on internet. I've found that the angle of the feed ramp is not the same on a rifle and a M4 upper and the M4 need these groove for the good fonction of the gun. Just want know exatly what I have to by what I need.

Hitzy : thanks but just confirm me with these picture that is what I need, the STI upper.

Just a forewarning though, your take down pins may be the large hole size....introducing another problem, but easily fixed with offset adapters.
