AR-15s, M-16s, M-4s - Questions for you nutz.

Sadly. I was really excited about geting an AR-15 or something similar, I just don't want to be on a leash if i do get it. Are there any other military-rifles available in Canada that are solid guns, look good and are non-restricted?

Spend your money first on getting a PAL (licence).;)

There are a lot of fun guns in all shapes and sizes you don't need a mil spec one to start.

If you have funds you can get several different non-restricted military looking guns that fire the same round as an AR15. They all will be over $1000 though.

Look in the photo section you can see several threads on various guns.:)

As Jamie mentioned earlier in the thread, the following are non-restricted "military style" rifles:

AR-180B

HK SL-8

SIG Black Special

CZ-858

Robarm XCR

Robarm M96 (20")

I'm sure there are some non-restricted ones I'm missing here. By the way, I'm not a shill for Wolverine Supplies, nor have I ever dealt with them. :)

They were the only Canadian site I could find that had links & pictures to all these great looking rifles. ;)

I am thinking the AR-180b is as close 'visually' that you are going to get to an AR-15 in an unrestricted rifle. There is no point beating this dead horse further....If you save your pennies and are as Gun nutty as me (and many better shots than I!) get a Sig PE90...

Decent, it's growing on me. I still prefer how the M96 handles, but now prefer the PE90 in use due to the slightly better accuracy. If it had a left side charging handle I'd be set. I sold both my M96's and am keeping the PE90 for now, so I guess that says something.

Overall, for the time being, it's my favorite 5.56 platform.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I do have the money by the way. I'd be willing to put up to about 1300$-1500$ for a non-restricted gun like those, cause for that kind of money, I'd hate to be on the old government leash. I'd gradually invest more money into the gun to customise it and whatnot. Are there any places within 2 hours of Toronto where firearms like those listed might be commonly available for purchase? I've been to Ellwood Epps up in Orillia, and it seems like a good place to start. Is the AR-180b a commonly sold firearm?

AR-180B are hard to get atm lots on back order. check out wolverine supplies for the price. Unfortunately the PE-90 is $3000. But i doubt you will find many of the non restricted that you are interested in for under $2000

Accept no substitute :)
