I love it!

I do wanna replace the stock though. It really doesn't lend itself well to bench shooting.

No problem, as the L1A1 is semi auto only, but I have to go to a shooting range. It would be illegal to use it for hunting tough.

It looks like a DCM freefloat tube has been added under the handguards ala:

Unless you've got x-ray vision, he could have a free float tube under the handguards (the same one that National Match shooters use)...

If a manufacturer lists "free float handguards" does it mean the barrel is free floated? Just wondering about my RRA 24" Varmint.

Yes. In a free float system aside the impingement system and/or front site the only thing touching the barrel is the barrel nut which is of course holding it in place. Somewheres in the configuration the ff rail/tube attaches to the barrel nut but but doesn't come in contact with the barrel. Traditional handguards are touching the front of the rifle where they're held in place.
