AR-15's

New stock and a rattlecan paintjob!

Stock finally on the C8--right now it's closer to a long-barreled, flat-top version of the Diemaco-subcontracted Colt 727s used by Delta Force in Mogadishu, but it's moving in the right direction.

Yes, the safety's off--the hammer is down, and the bolt carrier group is on the other side of the room. Call it a strange quirk, but I like to leave BCG's out of "under construction" builds until I'm ready to start testing.

Here is mine and my buddies colt’s. Which one are you taking?

Both have aimpoint comps on them.

Two fresh views of the C8... tri-rail's a temporary Airsoft part until either I figure out my way around ATF Form 6 or BCM starts popping made-in-USA versions again.

Light is a cobbled-together Surefire G2 MacGyverization meant for my "Rockpile Field Mod" M4, Velcro strap holding the tape-switch on the VFG is borrowed from my laptop's headphone cable.

Weirdly you're not that far off. I used a G2 in a FAB Defense vertical grip, and later in a ring with tape switch back in 2008.

Thanks, Lerch--actually, this light and its replacement LED assembly WENT to A-stan on a buddy's M4 with a similar Vltor Scout Mount (SM-CK) and grafted-on Millennium Series (Surefire XM07) tailcap/switch assembly, then it rode his duty rifle for most of the years since in his LE career and it found its way to me as he's downsizing in prep for retirement. :) Foregrip differs from "CF Standard" only in having additional branding for Viking Tactics when they had a US distribution partnership with Cadex. Hard to believe that tri-ad rail's an Airsoft piece of crap, isn't it?

If building up another of these to leave on the C8 pencils out cheaper than an Inforce WML, I may just go this route again... Next updates will be when the Umbrella Corp. "phase two" lower replaces the Aero meant for my M4, then once the furniture is correctly "green-ified"--and I've only gotten this project this far because a bunch of great guys here, some more at M4C, and a wonderful husband-and-wife pair of neighbors who own a gunshop have picked me up and carried me on your shoulders. :)

ATF form 6 is very simply done on line, I ended up importing 10k federal primers two years ago during the small pistol primer shortage of 2016-2017. ATF's really really really nice and easy going on this, I had made an error and they basically called me told me what to fix and that they're going to withdraw my prior one and that they'll approve the new one shortly. They took 2 hours to approve!

A couple of new (to me) ARs. First up is a Primary Weapon System (PWS) Mk 114 Long-Stroke Piston-operated carbine in .223 Wylde:

2) S&W MP15 with upgrades
3) BCM Complete Lower with BCM upper receiver and MRA match barrel

I'm not an expert so gonna ask advice. I bought my wife a lower recently and she wants more of a precision build (as compared to my usual shorties :) ) I'm thinking of doing a wood Furnitured AR but I'm wondering what the best barrel would be for her. What's the optimal length and rate of twist... We don't reload so would be shooting commercially available ammo (55gn etc).

You might start by looking to the specs for the Mark 12 SPR or the M110 CSASS. Definitely a barrel twist of 1-7 to 1-9. For precision ammo you might want to look at heavier stuff, like 77-grain Mk 262 clones.

If she's looking to also have some flexibility rather than "range and precision at all cost," you might consider looking to the SEAL Recce Rifle or the Mk 12 Mod Holland as jumping-off points instead.

ahhh, if your doing a precision build may as well get a NR receiver set (the extra "tightness" on say a modern sporter receiver set would be a little nicer too) , and stick in a 18.6" barrel, or a 20" if you really wanna reach out and touch some-ting. so 18.6"-20" barrel 1 in 8 twist, .223 wylde chamber. The 8 twist is a good mix between, if your gonna use heavier and lighter bullets. But if your sticking with factory 55 gr, its not really a precision build. Factory 55 gr ammo is like maybe 1.5-3 MOA, which isn't really fun at distance. So if factory ammo, just get a 1in7 or whatever is cheapest staying away from 1in9.

For a true precision build you might as well start reloading. get a lee press, 4-die set, some bullets and primers start reloading. I was able to load up 1/2 moa ammo with 200$ worth of equipment.

Some new builds

Bought some lowers in the last gun ban scare, then got bored waiting for my Modern Sporter and decided to finish them off. Took a while to get these done;a lot of the parts for these came off of the CGN EE! I will do a breakdown of each of these in their own post.

Be a shame if these get banned...
