Finally got most of my parts in and together. The only thing left of the norc on it is the upper and barrel :p I'm still waiting for my magpul stock to get here and haven't decided if i want to go red dot or scope yet. Hopefully i can find some time to take it to the range soon!

Even though it's old school NV, I think it still works fine. It has a bit of fish eye around the perimeter, but that's expected for 45 years old and generation.

Across the fence, alley, corner of the school ground, and approx 150 yds with no ambient light, or moon into the neighbours garage/yard. 3.4 magnification.

This has the Israeli reticule and is compatible with all PVS4 and 502 reticules, ie. FNC1, TOW, M14, M16, etc. Brightness is adjustable.

Highly recommended.

Koldt where did you purchase your NV scope? I have been interested in purchasing something like this for my M14. Also, how do you zero these things, is there a setting on the scope that allows you to shoot during daytime, or does all zeroing have to be at night?

It is old/ex Canadian Forces night vision, sold as surplus many years ago. The same as any military surplus item, you just have to search the surplus stores/individuals and gun shows.

You use/adjust them the same as any other optics, for windage and elevation exactly the same. Those large round "things" on the front objective are the adjustment knobs that you use a 'coin' to click the reticule into where you need to zero it. Each click is 1 MOA.

In the photo you can see the large green daylight filter. It is similar to dark welder glass, that filters out the light/sun. This scope can then be shot during the day, to sight in, if needed.

This scope is almost identical in size to the US AN/PVS4 NV scope still in use by the US military. Granted the US has upgraded the generation of intensifier tube, but is physically the same size.

This AN/PVS 502 scope is officially a Gen 1 scope. However, I have compared it with a Gen2 PVS4 side by side, and found no difference in resolution, S/N ratio or light gathering perception. The 502 is documented at 28 lp/mm. Modern Gen3 NV is rated usually at approx 58-72 lp/mm, as a comparison.

The only thing that makes the PVS4 into a Gen2 is that the tube shuts down immediately upon turning off the switch. The 502 will take a while to fade away. There are a lot of parts interchangeable between the PVS4 and the PVS502.

I've built a few of these units, so if anyone has one that needs adjusting/servicing, I can try as best I can with it. I'm not an ex CF FCS Tech or anything, simply have played with and stripped a few.
