AR-180 parts question

Another question for those in the know.

I'm considering the AR 180B as a good light plinking gun, however with them being discontinued I'm thinking over possible long term maintenance scenarios and started wondering about parts availability, so:

What parts on the AR 180B-2 are interchangeable with the AR15? I know the bolt head is, and I've read the trigger components are but there's mixed info; there as some sites say no ar180's of any model used ar15 parts whereas others define the 180B as using ar trigger parts.
Also I'm still figuring out what specifically the 2 in the name stands for in AR180B-2. I'm assuming Canadian model but not sure.

Anyways, thanks in advance!

The AR 180 is a different gun than the AR180B. The 180 is the semi version of the AR18 (and is prohib) The 180B is the later Armalite rifle with the polymer receiver. The 180B has an AR trigger group, both B and B2. One of the B's has a thread on FH which makes it restricted (I believe it's the B1) the other has a flash hider machined out of the barrel, which makes it NR.

This may add some complication to the designations, but I'll give it a go at explaining the differences between the AR-180B and AR-180B2. Up until the US Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) ended in '04, all AR-180B rifles had the integral flash hider and 20 inch barrel in order to make it a "sporting" rifle. Once the AWB ended, they changed the main production model to having a thread on flash hider and an 18 inch barrel, and gave it the original's AR-180B designation. At the same time, they also continued to produce the 20 inch model with the integral flash hider for the Canadian and California markets, but renamed that configuration the AR-180B2. So because of this, you can find rifles marked either AR-180B or AR-180B2 that have the longer barrel, but also guns marked AR-180B that are restricted due to barrel length. So if you are looking on Gunbroker at buying and importing one marked AR-180B (without the 2 suffix), be sure that it was made before the changeover in 2004 and that it has the integral FH, or you are buying a restricted rifle. All rifles marked AR-180B2 will be non restricted.

Yep - figured as much - was under the impression the bolt head was interchangeable?

The bolt is not interchangeable with an AR15 bolt - unless you have mad welding and machining skills.

They are similar, but not exact. That said, you could probably make a 180-b bolt out of an AR bolt. Maybe.

Its too bad all this info wasn't contained in an FAQ.

The bolt heads are the same, but the tail of the bolt, as well as the location and angle of the cam pin hole are completely different. The only interchangeable parts are the trigger, hammer, mag catch, and a few other minor components.

Haha - fair enough - I searched google but didn't search the site.
