I am looking at a 180 B and was wondering how many rounds would the rifle be good for considering it was well maintained? 2000....5000....10000??

I beleive on the armalite site they recommend 10000 rounds before a barrel replacement. Mine's about halfway there, and still as accurate as ever, by the way.

I really don't think barrel life is the issue you should worry about. I have heard of a few problems with the pivot points of the lower receiver cracking. In all the cases I have heard about on the net Armalite replaced the lower with a new one. I don't think it's a widespread problem and it's the only major concern I've seen people talk about. Check out AR15.com threads on the AR180B.

I would still buy one if I weren't already waiting on a CMP Garand (US) and parts to finish another AR15 build.

The infamous "crack" only seems to rear its ugly head if you open the rifle and allow the upper and barrel to slam forward.

If you actually maintain the rifle as intended, I don't think you will see a crack appear in the lower.

GT has it right. While the upper can be replaced it is the cost of a new gun. If you don't heat up the barrel excessively it will last a long time.
