Went to the range today to try out the AR500 8" round steel target I bought from Hoplite Tactical Supplies. Target was hung on metal frame with S hooks and gave a good downward angle at 100m from the firing line.

I was very happy with how it handled .556 Winchester 55 gr at 100m, so we turned it up a few notches, and hit it with three rounds of .270 WSM Barnes 130 gr TSX, and the last shot was a 7mm Rem Mag Barnes 140 gr TSX.

The following pics show the aftermath. The .270 WSM copper bullets (orange circles) left some copper on the target that came off with the fingernail and made no more mark than .556, the 7mm Rem Mag (white circle) left an indentation on the face and a slight bulge at the back.

So, there you have it, it's a great deal, and will handle .556 at 100m with ease, I don't think it will see any more magnum rounds unless it is at longer ranges.

7mm RM will not dent half inch AR500 (it does pit the surface a little more). Best to stick with lead core .223 with 3/8th steel.

This is usually, I shot many 223 fmj and 308 norc surplus at the 8" gong I got from can am at 100-200 yard with no damage, I shot a couple of surplus 7.62x39 and 7.62x54 at 50-100 yard with also no damage :s
