AR 7.5" bbls,...decent?

Yes they're accurate out to 100. They also have the side effect of being a flame thrower and having a good amount of concussion. If you're sensitive to shock or mindful of others around you at the range get a muzzle device that directs shock downrange.
 
I think of 7.5's as novelty guns. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, just limited in their ability for longer range shooting. Most say that about 10.5's as well, but they're awesome imo. Easy to move around with, quick target transitions, and on a single point sling, they don't hit the ground unless you do.


10.5" is perfect for the style of shooting I like. I'd get a 7.5" one day, but probably not before a 14.5/16" and not as my only AR.

Do you have an AR already, and if yes, what length barrel?

Also, it's your cash, buy whatever floats your boat!
 
10 or 11. Perfeect comprimise between pdw and carbine. I have a 7.5 and a 14.5. I think a 10 us down the pipe for me.

U won't be winning any long range comps with a 7.5
But a heavy quality bbl is decent.
 
I have a 7.5, a 10.5, and a 12.5”… The 7.5” is a build that I used a NEA barrel for. The barrel has been good, but there were some minor problems that I had to deal with. Aside from that it seems to shoot great, but honestly I haven’t shot it past 25 meters.

With that being said, I consider the 7.5” to be a novelty like a previous poster said. I find it awkward to shot and it’s not very practical. It’s a bit of a toy and thus a ton of fun. When I show it to people they gleam with joy and laughter, it’s a hoot. But, I tend to think of it as a pistol not a carbine considering how it handles, and as a toy not a serious piece of kit.
 
Can't hit at longer ranges......yada yada yada. Baloney! My 7.5" RRA would take down the pigs at 300 meters all day long with just an aim point T1 micro on it, benched. I'm sure half the guys that talk trash about short barrels have never tried them!
 
There's no inherent accuracy problems with short barrels...just a lot of wasted powder.

I think you made the right choice, personally. An 11.5 is a much better general purpose short carbine.



I'd like about a 9" .300BLK. That's the only seriously short barrel that interests me.

A lot of guys get short barrels, then hang 2.5" of muzzle brake or something off them. I'll take the extra barrel length and an A2, thanks.
 
Has anyone had jamming issues with their 7.5" ? I have a NEA 7.5 AR and the last time I took it out I had a double feed almost every 2-3 rounds. Very annoying... I tried 10 different mags. At first I was thinking feed ramp problems, but also thinking buffer weight may be an issue. I was shooting norc and partizan.

Any other ideas?

So many people keep saying "buy an NEA, they good, I promise!!!", and with SFRC's current sale it is tempting... but the issues never quite stop popping up.
It seems like every problem someone on here posts about is a new NEA malfunction.
They're just not worth saving $2-300 on a higher quality rifle imo.

I hope you get yours sorted out.
 
I don't have a shorty AR, but I have a Vz58 with a7.5" barrel. It is a hoot but the muzzle blast/concussion make it a novelty more than a serious tactical tool. My AR with a 16" barrel is immensely more comfortable to shoot. I am going to get a shorty AR in the future and it will definitely be a 10.5". One ridiculous fire breather in my collection is enough..
