HELLO,
our range backstop is not design to handle centerfire rifle caliber, I am very interested in getting an AR 223/ BY ROCK RIVER ARMS OR BUSHMASTER,My question is if I decide to get a 9mm, how complicated is the conversion from a 9 to 223. and of course the cost. thanks:(

If you get one of the 9mms that doesn't have the pinned magwell blocks..all you will need is a complete .223 upper

Mags will be the biggest problem

factory colt 9mm mags are the best for the 9mm ar15's

they are VERY expensive 150.00 or so each IF you can find them

you can also use converted uzi mags not so pricey BUT can be just as hard to find....

Maybe it's because I use them at work but I don't see the attraction to 9mm ar's. Maybe it's the gee-whiz factor but for the trouble you go through to find mags, the going price for one..you could get a camp carbine in 9mm for a lot less money and hassle.
Not trying to discourage you..just thinking out loud.

9mm upper

I have an Olympic Arms 9mm upper with a magazine block to allow the use of regular STEN mags. Works really well and mags are not a big $$ problem as with the Colts.

I've thought about a 9mm AR a bunch, and while it's got the "Neato" factor, added to the low recoil factor, well, you're still stuck with 5 rd mags, unless you get the one that's compatible with the Glock mags, but it just looks wrong due to the feed angle that the mags have to be at to function.

If you could have full cap mags for them, I'd think a little harder, but 5 rounds then done? Not so much fun.

I've got a .22 conversion kit for my AR (Ceiner) with 30 round mags (multiple mags) and I love it.

I can plink all day for pennies, and it's quite a blast.

Rather than a 9mm, I'll suggest getting a .223/5.56 and a .22 LR conversion kit to go with it.

+1. It is a neat little noise maker, but I would much rather have a .223 carbine m4, or a similiar type gun in a larger calibre; like a .45 version:D
I like the MP5, but I like the UMP more. For controls, the AR variants are the winners.

thanks for all the input, in my HEART it should be a 223, its just our range limitations ( no center fire rifle cal). maybe will go for a 22, thanks again
