I put my Armalite barrel on an A1 DK marked upper. I sighted it in at 50 yards and at 100 yards.
To bring the shots on target, I had to drift the windage way over to the right.

I know this can be caused by a tilt in the barrel. I know it can be fixed.
I have two questions;

-Has this happened to anyone else?

-Am I being anal? Or should I leave well enough alone?

Thanks for your input.

Do you have Armalite's clamp on FSB?

If so then it may have loosened and canted slightly. I bought an Armalite of a guy who told me he had to this to his. When it showed up I realized that the front sight was nowhere near straight so I just loosened it and put it back where it should be.

I would not be happy if one of my builds printed dramatically away from mechanical zero. If it was me, I would pull the barrel, check the condition of the index pin and its slot, and carefully reinstall it.

I had a similar problem with a barrel in a used M16A1 upper. When I got the handguard ring, weld spring, and barrel nut off, I found that the slot for the index pin was dented. I cut off some stainless steel shim stock and placed it between the dent and the index pin. I then reassembled the barrel and checked the alignment. Everything came out perfect. When I shot it for zero, it was right on the money.

Let me get my litle brain around this. I need to move my shots to the right. Either I can move the rear sight right or I need to move the front sight a little to the left.
Correct?
So it's as far to the left as it will go in the slot. It means I have to file some steel off the left side of the slot.
Right?
It stinks to be 30 miles away from the range!
On ar15.com they advise me to whack the front site post. Has anyone done this? Bubba?

I think you may have it backwards. If i'm right, for right now forget about the sights and worry about the barrel. If when you say it's as far to the left as it will go in the slot, you mean the indexing pin is up against the left side with some space at the right, than i would try and shim it to the other side and resight. That should rotate your barrel and the front sight over to the right.

I'm assuming that your directions are from the rear of the gun, not from the muzzle.
