AR accesories-what influences your decisions

Yup.

Some brands, and products have earned their rep, good and bad. ;)

For example Vickers sling. It's a must have on an AR.

Grip pod, not so much.

The grip pod blows my mind... like putting a vertical fore grip or an AFG behind a harris on a 24 inch varmint with a magpul ubr stock for the range. But hey, what people want to do with their money is fine by me.

Function.

I've never added anything to a gun that just 'looks' better... it always fulfils a purpose first.

yup :
in this order:
1) determine what function needs to be fulfilled
2) evaluate all options, features and $
3) Minimal research - mostly into features and direct comparisons.
4) evaluate if item fills purpose, meets budget requirements
5) narrow list down, re-evaluate.
6) find new option for purchase
7) Start over.
8) pick two functions that can be filled by new item.
9) search sponsoring dealers
10) Run out of luck
11) Start over
12) Search for items available in Canada
13) spend money on a night of drinking and gambling
14) wait for next payday
15) pay bills
16) wait for next payday
17) impulse buy the first item that made you think "I could really use one of those"
18) Think about all the other ones you could have had; regret.

Function. You don't need most of the crap that people put on their rifles. Most owners would be well served by a good two point sling, a quality optic suited for the role, a set of reliable back up sights, some sort of foregrip (or bipod depending on role) and a light. And only enough rails to mount the above. Anything else is generally just weight.

As mentioned earlier that is a pretty ### picture of Costa. I respect his ability as an instructer but why would he ever have a picture like that in his line of work? And is that a real GI Joe?

And why all the hate for the grip pod? I have a Fab Defense grip pod and I like it as I can get a better grip for off hand shooting where a regular bipod would take up all my stock space.

Don't you dare call the beard ###!!! That's a real Costa action figure.

3 gun, that's about all that's going through my mind when I'm looking at gear. I'll post some pics when I get the chance but I think I've got my set up nailed for this summer. I'm sure after a couple matches I'll decide to change some stuff again tho.
