Hey everyone,
I am looking to start handloading for my newly acquired 20" 1 in 9 twist Bushmaster HBAR and was wondering if anyone had and suggestions as to what bullets to use and possibly a nice metering powder that I could use in my dillon 650? I don't have any experience with loading for the AR platform so figured I would ask! This rifle is basically a toy to play with while my precision rifles cool down during range days and I hope to plink out to 500yds with it. I know accuracy will be modest in comparison to my bolt guns, just want to get close to 1MOA if at all possible Thanks in advance folks! (Remember I said IF lol)

I'd recommend either H335 and Ramshot TAC if you want smooth metering. Just like water these two.

As for loads I run 25.5gr of H335 behind a 55gr FMJ.
And 26.0gr of TAC.

These loads are my versions of USGI M193 clones and are right at the top of .223 pressures, although they might not be quite up to 5.56 velocities.

Neither of those loads are super accurate in my 1-9" Kel-tec (2-2.5MOA), but the powder meters awesome and they're quite cheap.

My more accurate loads are with Reloader 15 and H4895 but these don't meter as easy in my powder measure as I have to move the toggle back and forth to make sure I emptied the cylinder. They're also not as cheap, using Sierra and Hornady commercial SPs

Thanks, thinkin maybe I will hand pour (by this I mean use my electronic dispenser :p) these loads to take advantage of better powders after all... These aren't going to be "pray and spray" rounds after all so the little more time they might take might be worth it. Guess experimentation is the way to go and heck, it's half the fun right? :)

I'm sure H335 and TAC are pretty accurate powders, It's just I load them hot and am looking for more punch with economy bullets at the expense of accuracy.

I do not think it is the powder that is the reason for your not so good accuracy but rather the cheap 55 graim FMJ nullet.

Allthough this was a lucky group:

Powder was WC735 (25.0 gn)
55gn Bulk Lake City FMJ BT
Norinco M4

Thanks guys! Definitely appreciate the input! Hoping to start some load development as soon as the scope mount comes in... I'll be sure to post some pics for examination also. If it helps I have a 5.56 chamber... Donno how much difference that will make as like I said, the AR platform is new to me :)
