AR barrels.. NEA or S&J?

I like to think a name like ARC+ clearly implies an ionic or plasma based process. If that's the case, then as a consumer I can take comfort in the benefits of such a process and it's benefits with respect to a rifle barrel.

why doesn`t the top AR companies use this?

Some do. CMMG and Noveske come to mind ;)

Some quick google-fu shows nitro-carburization is used by some very respected names in the industry including:

-Glock
-Sig
-S&W
-CMMG
-DS Arms
-Superior Barrels

The only real negative I've read of wrt nitrided barrels is that if you nitride the barrel with the receiver extension already installed, you have to be somewhat careful of the process you choose. If you choose a high-temp process, the extension will end up softer, the barrel harder, and they can potentially unscrew from each other if the locating pin isn't in real good. CMMG, for example, nitrides their barrels first, then installs a parkerized extension and drills the gas hole last for just this reason. Might be overkill - who knows?

We're out of the S&J barrels but we have lots of NEA 14.5" and 7.5" barrels in.

I thought barrels under 10" could have cycling issues because of gas, thats why they often come with specific buffers. Does NEA make buffers for the shorter barrels or is this a non issue since theyre only used in semi auto?
On a side note, it would be nice if this process is used by glock, it would be nice if people could send in parts for refinishing ...such as the crappy finished lone wolf barrels all the mini glocks come with.

yes for sure 14.5 and 16.5 mid, i want a middy for myself!!
we have to do a little testing on the 14.5 middy before we sell them as i want to make sure we get the port size right, not to many people wanting to share that info so we will do out own testing first, to make sure it will run on basic Fed 223 as well as good stuff liek the PMC .556 ss109

Wonderful. :D

A 14.5" middy would get my attention!

We treat our extensions as well.. just not with them installed onto the barrel. They are done separately.

I can't speak for the NEA, because I haven't shot one, but the S&J barrels are top notch.

Keep in mind that a lifetime warranty doesn't mean that you are getting a superior product. It usually means that the items is produced and sold in such quantity that the manufacturer can replace the item with no loss. How many people on here have actually "shot out" an AR barrel, compared to the number of that actual model sold? I don't have the numbers, but I would be willing to bet it was a pretty low percentage.

Funny, the only places I've seen CMMG as being comparable as "top tier" is here in CGN and on CMMG's web site....:p

In fact I just googled it to see if anything had changed, it hasn't...

I'm not saying CMMG is "top tier" but they have a good reputation on AR15.com and do have a fair number of LEO contracts and loyal followers stateside.

I own one of their AR's (a 20" AR15A3) and IMHO it is the equal to my Stag 20", in fact I think the bbl might be better (it shoots better and has an accurate Gov't profile). It's closer to the M16 TDP than my Stag by a smidge and has a 5.56 chamber. Fit, finish, anodizing and quality of assembly are all top notch - I know this is subjective but I've owned a couple dozen different brands of AR15 and have built more than my share for others - I do have some basis for comparison.

I wish Questar still carried CMMG. My CMMG is a Chrome-lined gun though, not a WASP treated gun.

could be a project for some time in 2012
our blanks are raw and we profile and chamber them in canada, that lets us machine them to anysize we see a market for.
I have been told that Casey at tac ord has done one so maybe ill talk with him and we can get somthing going sooner then later.

I would buy a C8A3 barrel for sure!
