I have shot alot of AR in the past and for some reason have never paid much attention to the scallop cuts in the right side of the bolt carrier.

Are these just lightening cuts or do they serve some other purpose?
Why are they only on the one side?

thanks

The only real use I have for the Forward assit - is if the bolt hangs up a bit after a "press check".
I do all my guns before going "out". I leave them readied - but you always want to be 100%
- and unlike a pistol slide you can bump back into battery the FwdAssist is the only way to bump the bolt home.
Due to firing pin impression on chambered rounds I try to limit reloading and readying if I dont have too.
