As far as accuracy and being able to hit what you need to in most 3gun, the barrel length doesn't matter (I hear some guys shoot stateside to 300+ meters, so if that is a factor, I'd probably go 16" & + in length).
Length and weight will matter mostly with respect to the shooter's size and stature, as will the gas system (most carbine length gas guns and especially 10-12" barrelled guns are a touch more 'violent' and 'blasty' than a mid-length and rifle length system due to the dwell). Compensators/muzzle brakes have their value with respect to muzzle climb and recoil management, but they can come with some draw backs too (kicking up dust, and re-direction of blast).
I think a 16" ish mid length gased system is a good all-rounder, but pick what you prefer, not what people are necessarily favouring.
