I took my first step into the AR game last spring with the purchase of a lower receiver.
The build of the lower is now near completion.
With the addition of an upper, also near completion, the firearm will be functional. I understand I have 30 days to report this to the CFO.

What do you think the pros and cons are of assembling the gun and reporting it functional or leaving it not assembled and the lower remaining registered as a non-operational restricted. I'm thinking present day and also the day when and if the BS being spouted by the Libs comes to be.

Do you intend to take it to a range and use it? if yes than update the status, if not than it will be just a safe queen. either way it will still be confiscated once the ban is in place.

Thanks for your reply. If it will be confiscated either way I'll be updating the status and be shooting it regularly.
I have 30 days after assembly to update the status. I assume it can't be legally transported and shot until the status is updated, even if it's within the 30 days.

I wondered if they'd do a buyback/confiscation of a stripped lower.

Yes, you have 30 days to call in to get the status changed and you can't take it to the range until you have the updated certificate.

As to the buyback/ confiscation? until we see a draft of the bill there is no point speculating or worrying about it, just go a shoot the crap out of it, so when it is time to turn it in, should be falling apart.

Why are you notifying the government?
You only need to contact the government if you do something that changes the classification of the gun.

You are changing a restricted firearm to a restricted firearm. There's no change in classification.

it makes no difference. lower or gun - both will be confiscated.

My prediction (based on latest polls) is that the fascists will win or form a minority government and ban the AR (and more.

Now you can hold on to your lower and then hand it over or build a gun out of it ASAP and use it for 2 years until Canada's finest roll up to your house with real Assault weapons and take it from you

What makes you think you will be able to use it for 2 years .
They only stated they would give 2 year grace period for all to comply & turn in their guns.
Once the law is passed all affected restricted registrations become prohibited .
Does your ATT allow prohibited rifles to be transported to an approved gun club ?

update the status and shoot the panties off it, there is no ban yet, the commun....liberals might not even win so don't worry about it until there is something to worry about, shoot your rifle, enjoy it, vote conservative or at least strategically vote and cross the ban bridge IF we come to it

" Is your shotgun restricted? "

It stays non-restricted in the configurations that I put it in.

But if I switched it to a 12" barrel and a pistol grip, it would then become restricted.

If I did that; I would be legally obligated to call the government and let them know.
