Well I've been a gunny for many years but never built an AR, so I started collecting parts and finally assembled it tonight.
The lower is an Aero Precision with an Anderson LPK and a DPMS stock. There are 2 magpul upgrades on it.
The upper is an unmarked Spikes with a Colt Semi BCG, the barrel is a Colt Pencil CMP marked, its free floated in there. The Gas assy is from Maple Ridge & the handguard is an Aero. The carry is a Colt off an M4. The FH is a birdcage that was on the barrel - just put a new crush washer on.
I googled all my torque specs as I went and it went together remarkably easy.
With the Bushnell optics sale on I bought a 10x40 for $340 and got $200 back - but I dont have a mount yet so its just sporting the carry handle.
Either way I need a mount and I'm basically done - off to the range I go here in the next few weeks to try it out.
FYI - I bought 90% of the parts from the exchange for this build.
I think I'm into it for... $990 (lower $275 / upper $715) *this includes the scope but not the mount*
I had an SP1 upper that the taper pins had been mangled on (not by me!!) so I pillaged the barrel / BCG / FH.
I'm curious how the pencil barrel shoots being free floated.... I'm gonna run Norinco 556 and Rem 223 through it for perspective.
So, I still need a 1" AR scope mount, an Mloc front stud for a bipod & maybe flip up sites..... The scope mount is the important part....
