For those of you without a factory case for your AR, what do you use to transport it?

I ask because I came into possession of a lovely Colt 16" AR without a case and since it doesn't fit nicely into anything I own I'll have to pick something up. I'd like to hear about some of the better options out there.

If One Shot ever gets back to me, I would like a Voodoo soft case to go inside the Storm hard shell I bought last month.

Best of both worlds, but a little pricey as compared to a soft shell only.

I like the hard cases but didn't want to spend the money on a dedicated box just for my AR. With inserting a soft case into it, I only needed to buy two hard cases and I can transport all the variations of my guns in them.

I use a Starlight case with a single 5.11 rifle case inside. The 5.11 case is not the best made out there but the price is right. In it I can store my 6920 14.5" and all the gear needed for a match or course save the ammo...not sure why

I use a take-down shotgun case. It's short and wide, perfect for my 14.5" AR or VZ-58 with up to three handguns.

Good spot Glo7. That sounds like a helluva case for the price.

imbane, a good friend of mine uses a guitar case for his red rifles, but that's because he lives in a bad neighborhood. I'm a little more concerned with size, but we each have different priorities.

I use a Pelican 1720 for my hard transport case. The thing is built like a tank, warrantied for life and will carry an AR with lots of gear if you lay out the inside out before cutting the foam to size.

I also use a MARPAT or CADPAT drag bags. PM saw_gunner for details or check out the website at getsometactical.com. These cases are very durable, will carry any size AR and has lots of well designed pockets for magazines, cleaning rods etc. The quality is excellent. I am very happy with these AR drag bags, they are my favorite all round cases. Very small but pack a lot of goodies.

I live in a good neighbourhood. It's a high-rise building, I just don't like to show a gun case in the elevator.

I walked out of my house last week with a bunch of camo gear and a small tactical rifle case containing my AR. My neighbour taked to me a couple days later, asking if I bow hunt. Told him no, asked why? He stated that he say me the other day leaving with a large camo case that looked like it had a bow in it.

I played dumb, told him it was my bow. Better than telling him its 5K worth of 14.5" AR15 fun!

Neighbours see everything, even when nobody is else. Most of my neighbours question me when I am carrying large bags and load my car.

Better knowing that they think I own a bow instead of the extensive collection I do?

MARSTAR sells an excellent line of soft guncases. I've got a shorty (38") for my 16" bbl'ed AR w/collapsible stock. It's a very solid heavy codura nylon padded case with an oversized heavy duty nylon zipper. I also like the mag pouches on the side. It has a carrying strap as well as carry handles and the case can be locked. Their prices are also very good for what you get. I can highly recommend them for normal range use. http://www.marstar.ca/ac-nylon/cases-gun-01.shtm

Stag sends a cheap $20 plastic case with theirs as do most of the others (if they send a case).

We have purchased a couple of metal rifle cases at the local sporting goods store that sorta look like a saxaphone case or whatever. Nice thing about the AR is its length. Fits perfectly. Nobody asks if we were transporting rifles. Ditto the handguns. Our case looks like (a) either a gym bag, or (b) a metal briefcase. Does not look like we are transporting handguns.

Be discrete. You will be better off for it.

Hockey Bags

I met a guy at the range last year who transports his pistols and gear in a hockey bag. He lives in an apartment building and it save him answering a lot of silly questions.
