AR chrome moly bbl life vs chrome lined.?

The issue is mainly with the throat. The steel is what really makes a difference. 4140 vs 4150 vs hammer forged 4150. Buy a Colt Canada for the best life.

I think you are talking about accuracy degradation... a barrel I would think could last a long time (i.e. 15k-40k) :)

Just keep checking every once in awhile with the field gauge and you are good to go :p

I burned the throat out of a C-7A1 with about 12-15K fired through it (personally)...unsure of how many it had before that, but a few thou at least. I'd say 20K before accuracy drops off with a hammer-forged chrome lined Diemaco barrel.

What's on the market for civie purchase? Figure at least 5-8K before you'd even worry about it. If you fire 500 rounds a year, that's a decade of life...

I do have a pair of chrome moly bbls here that get a regular workout when I have the time.Sometimes I get a few hundred rounds out through a month, sometimes several hundred. With good maintenance should I be ok,..or do I go with the chrome lined...?..I have read that chrome moly has a slight accuracy advantage over chrome lined bbls, but I have not noticed alot of difference....

This question borders on a pissing match. I don't think you'll find a definitive answer. You might get some good experience with a particular version, but few people have had a chance to wear out both a chrome lined and chrome-moly barrel.

Rifledude shoots competition so a barrel of 5000 rounds could have lost enough accuracy to be wore out for him. For just having fun and not worrying about tighter than MOA I'm sure the barrel would shoot much longer.
