AR/ Eotech problem

I have Two AR's #1--10.5"ATRS in 223wylde. #2--Bushmaster Carbon 15 in 9mm. My Eotech is a 552 on a larue Qd mount. I can shoot all day with it on my 223 and no problems,10 rounds on my 9mm and it blinks out and will not turn back on for @ 10mins. I even tried new batteries and no turn on still. Is this an Eotech issue(ie..POS) or is this a 9mm issue any feedback would be helpfull as im about 5 mins from thowing this POS in the bin????:confused:
 
That sounds like an EOTech issue... I've seen an XPS 3-2 do it on a .223... get it warrantied!

Actually before you do that, check battery contacts and how well the cap locks in place.

Just had a look,all looks good, clean secure etc. thanks I may have to take in for warranty,Guess thats why we all run back up irons haha
 
You may need to give a slight stretch to the contact springs in the battery compartment. The tend to compress over time, especially if you store your sight with the batteries in it.

I had an Eotech that worked great on my AR but experienced reticle bounce on my M14. Same problem as you described but by 2 inches high and left.
 
Thanks guys hopefully its simple fix,we spend a lot of money on these things and man was I pissed when this happened.Did stretching the springs fix for you?if it did maybe I will do that before taking back to store
 
Keep in mind the 9mm is a blowback action and thus the recoil impulse is a bit different. That may be producing a more severe thump when it hits the rear of the buffer tube. Also these kinds of actions tend to produce a double thump as the heavy bolt carrier smacks both the back of the buffer tube and then the back of the barrel.

A 9mm AR cycles fairly quickly so you may not perceive this. I have an M3 Grease Gun and you can really feel that 2 pound bolt slam back and forth. It is a very strange sensation.

PS get rid of that craptastic plastic upper and get a real one. ;)
 
Suputin,You have stated something about blowback guns that I suspected to be an issue and was fishing to see if any one else had similar experience,one so far an M14 so far As soon as im back from vegas,im coming to the metal side,see you in two weeks.
 
Suputin, EOTech's can be mounted on .30 cals and 12 gaugers, I'm fairly sure 9mm isn't going to wreck it.

The spring shouldn't compress that easily... but can't hurt to give it a stretch before sending it back to the seller.
 
The way the batteries are mounted (lengthwise) the recoil of the firearm can cause them to momentarily loose contact. This is not un-heard of. The U.S. military runs their eotechs hard and seem to like them, so im guessing there is an answer. I have two 552's mounted on AR's, both in 5.56, and have never had any problem with them. My friends 512 went down one day while we were shooting, and that was the only thing we could figure. It runs fine for him now. Good luck-Dont give up even if you have to send it in. Eotechs are good sights, I have been running them for years.

Eotech has some real issues with the AA and N cell models. The AA have contact issues and the N cell models are greatly affected by heat generated by extended fire. There is a reason why the top instructors in the US call them EoCrap.

For your situation, check the battery compartment. Inside, check if you have two cylindrical rubber grommets with springs in the middle of the hole. If you do, then you need to ask Elite Arms (owner of Eotech) for a new battery compartment or a replacement kit. The new battery compartment and replacement kit will have a 'butterfly' insert instead of the two separate rubber grommets.

If your unit already has the 'butterfly' insert in the battery compartment, it could be a hardware issue that will need warranty work.

It was only a matter of time until someone turned this thread into an eotech vs aimpoint issue....

I have both, they are both excellent optics...period...

I use an xps on my benelli m4, 552 on my 870, 551 and 511 on a couple of my ar15's and have had contact issues once from compressed springs on my 552. Gently give them a stretch and see how it goes. I'm pretty sure the recoil from your 9mm is not the culprit.
 
Check the springs first. EOtech's should be able to handle a 9mm blowback or shotguns or whatever.

Over time the springs can get flattened and need to be stretched out...

If that doesn't fix it, then send her back to L3 and they should be able to fix it...



then sell it and get an Aimpoint ;) :p
