Ar - failure to extract

Just bought my first AR a Dominion Arms with a 20 in barrel and a 1 in 9 twist. I am new to AR's but have been shooting other guns for about 50 years.
My question is - I have no problem shooting Barnaul steel case or Norinco brass 5.56 but I had complete failure to extract with Winchester .223, 62 grain whitebox ammo - we had everything apart - one of the range officers assisted - the bolt, firing pin, and extractor look o.k. - rifle has only just come out of the box - maybe 120 rounds, when I returned to trying the Barnaul it once again performed flawlessly - I had the Winchester left over from my Mini which would eat anything. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Did you try loading just one round in the mag then fire?
Does the bolt move? Or stay in place
I had an issue with 55gr white box not cycling my sbr at one point but norc would fire just fine.

Possibly could be you have a gas system issue since the rifle is brand new. If the port isn't lined up properly or the fsgb may be slightly loose leaving the hotter norc ammo being able to cycle it but not the tamer winchester?

Btw the 55gr win white box shoots almost as good as my new hand loads out of my colt 20" hbar just a hair under 1moa at 100.

Was the rifle cleaned and lubed before it's initial firing?
I've seen people take rifles straight from the store to the range and fire them without cleaning or lubrication many times.

The bolt moves, the fired case is in the barrel and the next one jams up behind it. I will check the gas tube alignment......going to try some MFS I had lying around next week to see if it works, runs beautifully with the Norc and Barnaul. The guys at the range and the semi-pros at the attached store are stumped, suggestions range from getting an American bolt carrier group - to removing a rubber o ring in the firing pin chamber to being happy it loves cheap ammo???

So the bolt is cycling but the case keeps sticking in the chamber, by the sounds of it you said the bolt will cycle and the grab another round and jam it behind the fired case which is stuck in the chamber.

As others have said you might need an extractor upgrade. I don't think it's it a rough chamber but it could be. Maybe the hotter ammo is able to overcome a rough chamber.

Was the steel cased stuff you're shooting coated in lacquer? That can gun up chambers as well. If it's not a chamber issue I would upgrade your extractor.

Btw- I basically said the same thing 6 times in one post because I'm
Drunk.

My sincere thanks to all - extractor upgrade would make sense although the lip on the one installed is not undersized - what would you suggest? do I replace the bolt or just the extractor and with what? to throttle monkey - you have it right as to whats happening - the laquer etc is not an issue - I clean the rifle after every use, swab & snake the barrel, use a chamber brush and an improvised tool to clean everything out, soak the bolt and dry it..... its only fired perhaps 150- 170 rounds total - most of them Norinco brass cased 5.56.
I don't think the chamber is rough sure looks smooth and shiny.

BCM extractor upgrade kit OR completely new BCG from a top brand, BCM, spikes, colt, etc.

I always carry a complete spare bcg in my range bag just for these annoying reasons...

I'm wondering why everyone is saying its an extractor issue when the OP said that it works fine with 2 other kinds of ammo...
Sounds like an ammo issue.

I had a similar problem with my Bushmaster XM-15. The rifle has performed flawlessly with any ammo i have thrown at is so far. No ammo that i wanted was available so i tried the Hornady 55gr .223 steel match, and i had extraction issues. I did some research online and deduced it could have been from underpowered loads, or also from the steel cases. Ran about 600 rounds of AE .223 with 0 faliures prior to trying to Hornady stuff. I shot 50 rounds of AE .223 after with zero problems.
