I still say the Stag Arms 16" AR15 for $1415 with ARMS 40 BUIS is a very good deal.

yes I've been looking hard at those Stag Arms, but the only thing holding me back is the carbine lenght gas system. :(

I really want a mid lenght gas system with a 16" barrel

on a side note anyone here know what lenght of gas system is on those CF 16" trial uppers ?? or has this been discussed allready and I mised it

"Holy Crap",About 4 wks ago I ordered a 14.5 upper, now you guys are starting to worry me about "Carbine length gas systems".

How can they be that bad,and nobody change anything on them till now???

What about the pigtail gas tubes used on really short barrels?

The pigtail is for correcting extraction issues due to cycling rate in really short guns <11.5" some say it helps some say no, most likely due to the fact that <11.5" guns don't all have the same reason for less reliability, the combination of parts specs may cause some issues. My 11.5" runs like a creek in the spring, and I give it minimal maintenance.

Typically a 14.5" will run without issue, they are not bad, it's just less smooth than a midlength.
11.5" will run pretty good too, some have had issues due it it being more sensitive to various mechanical variances between guns.
10.5" more likely to need the proper tweeking to run reliably

They are not "that bad". They are reliably used by American soldiers every day in Iraq and Afghanistan. The carbine length gas system is perfectly ok. It's just that the midlength is better.
:dancingbanana:

Also, there exist 14.5" midlength uppers, but they are rare and may not be reliable due to less "barrel" available after the gas block.
