I haven't seen this myself (in person, at the range for example). I just read about this on another thread (post has since disappeared). Anyone here have a flash suppressor on a handgun? Is there any benefit? Is it just for show? What are your opinions?

I found some pics/examples online;

If you are looking for opinions based on looks......pass! But to each his own.

No, I can form my own opinion on how they look. I'd like to know if anyone has tried this on any of their handguns (or know someone who has), and if there is benefit to doing so. Someone here on CGN did it to their Glock (I don't know who though), and a quick google search shows that plenty of other people have done this as well. So I'm asking; why?

A compensator can make a big difference, but a flash hider is basically for looks.

some guys do it to protect the threads in place of a plastic thread protector.

That's what I was thinking.

That Ruger looks like a Ray Gun and the revolver looks like a prop from Firefly.

I also found a 1911 with one, but it looked beyond ridiculous. The photo was so bad, couldn't tell if the gun was real.

...and the first round coming out the pistol will create a new borehole in the .223 sized FH?

I get that, I have comp on my race gun. The question the OP asked was specifically AR-devices on pistols. Hopefully the OP didn't forget that fact

Perhaps I should have wrote "AR-style flash hider"? Otherwise... the pics speak for themselves.

I'm aware of the benefits of a compensator, I was asking if anyone knew of any benefit of having one of these large, AR-type flash suppressors on a handgun, or are they on there just for show?
