I'm interested in a rail system for my Stag 1R. I'm looking at Daniel Defense. Any thoughts? Also looking for a vertical grip. I'm new to customization of AR's, any input would be great.

Thanks,

Try the search function. What DD were you looking at, they offer several. The Omega rail is great, easy install no permanent modifications required and free float. Vert grips all have some slight differences. At the end of the day they all serve the same purpose.

Daniel Defense makes great rails.

The most popular are.

  • Omega
  • Lite
  • M4

Out of the above Omega is the easiest to install the remaining two require removal of the FSB.

larure is the answer if you want Free float.

I've tried KAC M4 RIS, DD RIS 2, Noveske SWS, and Larue has to be my favorite Free float due to its slim design

Larue FUG vertical grip. Pricey, but locks up rock solid, easy and quick to remove, and you can change the endcaps to configure it for different lengths.

I pulled this chart from "rob_s" at tacitcalyellowvisor.net:

The yellow ones indicate a built-in sling swivel attachment, which saves you about an ounce compared to bolting one on the side.

And, TDC approves of this chart (which apparently is a good thing! )

If you have the ability, Wilson makes a very nice free float and very very solid quadrail system. You do have to remove (Then install) the front sight and flash hider but it is rock solid!

If you want a DD, here is a good chart that compares all their models

I have the M4 , Lite and RIS II . All are rock solid and easy to install . My favorite is the RIS II. I also prefer the method of attatchment for the Lite and RIS II but some people don't like the funny looking ring with the socket head screws.

Good info on the quadrails. I like the look of the TD vert grip personally and mine seems very well made, however, I am sure they are all good. It all comes down to what you think looks the "coolest" as long as it isn't a cheap knockoff.
