Why

Why 9mm and not 223 ? Some 3 gun matches require rifle caliber. If you want a 9mm carbine there are better alternatives

There is no reason the Bushmaster rail won't work on the RRA 9mm upper.

Here a pic of my 9mm AR with Daniel Defense 9.5FSP rail.

^I've heard the same thing - AR platform is the way to go. I find the trigger weight of the storm a bit too heavy for my wussy fingers.

Nick,
You can get .223 pistol mags for the regular AR as well. Which are 10 rounds and legal to use in your .223 rifle.

9mm is cheap.. and the muzzle blast is way lower. I have several and the 9mm is the most fun...The bushmaster upper should be blow back operated. The bolt carrier is one piece, with no rotating bolt or gas key. A standard AR lower hammer and mag block is different. You'll need to modify a standard one to except a 9mm mag.

that's a very nice peice in the above post...

makes me want to modify one of my AR's now...or just get a brand new setup.

;)

also is there a conversion kit for the 223ar lower that converts it to accept 9mm mags and a 9mm upper???

because i was thinking about getting the RRA 9mm upper and fitting it on any one of my armalite 223 lowers, if its a possibility...

223 and 9mm upper receivers are the same. The only difference is that the 9mm upper receivers don't have a hole for the gas tube because its a blow back. I've used 223 upper for 9mm upper builds.

You can use any STD hole Upper on a lower, Just gotta make sure your lower has a M16 or 9mm Hammer in the trigger mech. Then you can get mag well conversion kits. If you use a Colt Sp1 upper that is a large hole you can get a bushing to make it a Std hole for the pin or vice versa.

Takes me 30seconds to convert one of my AR's into 9mm. I pop off the 223 upper, Put the 9mm one on, Put the mag well conversion in and tighten it and viola 9mm AR using a 223 lower. 3 out of my 4 lowers are converted so they will work.

But I made a dedicated 9mm AR. Rest are 223.

Before long, I'll have my Sten finished, and I'll be whacking away with that. Not as ergonomic, but for a semi-auto 9mm, not a bad solution, especially since it'll be home-made!

What about .45?

Not to hijack, but I have ben wondering about .45 on the AR platform.
I know it exists down south at least, but anyone put one together like that up here?
