I have been looking for an AR in .308. I would like to purchase one but can't seem to find any dealer with one other than the Remington R25. Not that I have anything against the Remington but I would like to reveiw several options such as Bushmaster, DPM or similar but I can not find a dealer with one in stock or a gunner who has one for sale. Anyone have one, dealer or individual?

Thanks
Ben

The Remington R-25 IS a DPMS. I have one and it is very good. Questar (site sponsor) has some DPMS in stock you can see on the website. Some of the regular DPMS do not have the forward assist (the Remington R-25 does). Sure it looks nice and clean without, but I would rather that little bump that will make the round go in, and not have it and a round gets stuck halfway in. Remington is owned by the same firm as Bushmaster and DPMS. The Remington/DPMS us Cproduct Mags, DPMS mags, SR-25 mags and Knights Armament mags. The AR-10 uses a proprietary mag I believe, perhaps harder to find manybe? Although I did have bear getting mags for my R-25 until Questar brought them in.

Ar .308

I am not sure I like the Mossy Oak thing, the rest of the gun I am sure is excellent but that camo finish.......
I can't seem to find any Bushmaster .308's or any other makes on the web in Canada.
I would buy the remington over the DPMS just because of the forward assist but the camo thing ... not sure about that yet.

Questar has one 16 in. carbine in stock. I would like to have a look at Bushmaster as well if I could find one.....

I have a DPMS 24 inches fluted SS barrel with forward assist and love it.
The only complain is weight. If I buy another one - I will go for the 20 inches barrel.

DPMS LR-308, Armalite AR-10, RRA LAR-8 (Not available in Canada), Socom lowers with Armalite uppers, Remington R-25 (aka DPMS) and there are a few more in the States that I haven't seen here.

Questar for DPMS (when available)
Wolverine for Armalite AR-10
Remington R-25 almost everywhere

The EE (equipment exchange). Just be careful. Some of the prices on stuff in the EE is more than new. Read the threads before diving in.

Expect to pay $1500 for the R-25, $1800-2300 for the DPMS and $2500-3000 for the Armalite.

The kel-Tec RFB if it comes here is another consideration. But that's a long shot.

Rock River Arms bought the Bushmaster .308 plans. Bushmaster as I recall couldn't get it to work. At least this is what I recall reading.

Personally I could care less about the forward assist. Hasn't been a problem so far without and yes it does look cleaner without.

I had a really nasty jam yesterday on my AR and all that saved me was that I had a forward assist. :O Mind you, if the AR design just had a cocking handle that one could give a big big ass wack to open the bolt that would work too.

Epoxy7 thanks for the info. I looked at Wolverines web site but it does not show whether they have stock or not. I will give them a call.

Wolverine is no longer selling the AR10's, they can't get them out of the US anymore. At least that is what they told me in an email last week when I was looking for one.

If you can find a lower, Epps has two DPMS uppers listed under their this n that section for $1300...no mention of length though (?)

I would want to double check that. Unless the new DPMS rifles have changed the handguard to carbon fiber it should be aluminum. The advertisment lists it as carbon fiber. The Armalite models come with the fiber guard. The two are not compatible.

Well Actually, when I first went to get an R-25 it was at one store, and the finish appeared too white-ish in colour, so I didn't buy it. I then found mine, which looks proper than the one I saw in person at the other store and less white than on the Remington site. I really like the camo finish on MINE, but didn't like it on some others. I like mine a lot and would love to hunt with it. Perhaps if the government gets its head out of its a** I will get to use this gun for what it was manufactured and setup for, or I may win the lottery and take a trip south of the border.

On a side note, the stock trigger on the R-25 rifles that I've tried (only at a store) is fairly good. The stock trigger on the DPMS sucks. Also the so called match grade trigger on the Armalite is way too heavy. My DPMS has a RRA national match in it. I'll be putting one in the Armalite as well.

Something to consider....

Got mine at Questar.
I like the forward assist and case shell deflector- without they look odds.

Different models have different features... the AP4 version is the 16" barrel with the regular looking receiver that includes the forward assist, has the standard A2 type front sight post, flash hider, etc.

The 308T is more of a Target model and is setup ready for a scope, has a gas block instead of a front sight post and has the "smooth side" upper receiver. Raised rail makes easier scope mounting. This is a 16" Heavy Barrel version.

There are various other versions including longer barrel lengths, but getting DPMS 308's has been difficult the past year... we get dribs and drabs... they don't usually last very long when they arrive.

There is of course another alternative and that's the Knights SR-25 but that's a whole other ball game... Knights recently released a new commerical offering for 2009 (the SR-25-LW) and brought the pricing down considerably from where it was before, but even with that reduction it's a $6,999.99 Canadian rifle (they used to be @ $10,000).

Mark, the SR-25 in .308 is a bit too pricey. I'm a die hard AR-10 fan but even I have a problem forking over that much cash. :(

Here's a comparison looks wise between my DPMS LR-308 without the extra stuff such as a deflector and dust cover(works perfectly so far, brass goes 2 o'clock in a nice pile about 8 feet away). The other rifle with the extras is my Armalite tactical special (Canadian military style target model).
