Anyone else interested in the 450 bushmaster? Load and shoot readily available 45 pistol bullets, 45 acp power to 450 marlin, shoot at an indoor range (most of my shooting, no hp rifle calibers allowed), remington and bushmaster rifles and uppers. So far no luck getting one.

I am but in my XCR-L I have asked Alex of Robinson Arms many times now to do a conversion but so far the answer is no.
you need to tame down your to 450 Marlin performance comment though the 450 Bushmaster cannot come close to that level of performance would be nice if it could but i just can't...

What bolt face does this cartridge run? Trying to shoehorn a bigger bolt face into a standard AR bolt wigs me out a bit. I've heard that 7.62x39 AR's tend to crack bolts regularily.

So is it just a new barrel? or new barrel and reciever?
I believe that the 284 Win is the parent case rim is .473" same as a 308/30-06 case.
Performance is more like a 454 Casull when equal barrel lengths are compared.
I have everything on the shelf except for brass to load these rounds including the 250gr Hornady FTX bullets and I even know where there is 200 - 300 brand new Starline brass here in BC for sale so it is just Robinson Arms not making a conversion kit and a mag with enough capacity that is holding me back.

The diminished mag capacity is a major downer in this cartridge - especially for our neutered mag restrictions. As far as hunting is concerned, it won't matter one bit for AR users here in Kanada. As a range toy, the only benefit I see to the cartridge is the posibility of being able to use cast lead bullets in an AR for plinking.
I think the real potential for the cartridge, at least for us, is its use in a bolt action or break action rifle/carbine. No other manufacturer offers the .450 Bushmaster in a non restricted semi-auto so you're out of luck there.

and I really don't see its use in anything but a semi it does absolutely nothing over a 454 Casull or a 45-70 in a rifle and the same could be said for the 458 SOCOM cartridge but like I said earlier these cartridges would be awesome in a XCR-L.
What this post has helped me with right now is I also looked up the 458SOCOM again and discovered that Barnes has made a .458" 300gr TTSX bullet that would be awesome loaded in my 22" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 45-70 I should easily be able to load these bullets to 1850fps - 1900fps.
I'm loading 325gr Hornady FTX @ 1850fps now but these bullets are known to be thin jacketed and do not stay together when hitting heavy bone whereas the Barnes 300gr TTSX would turn this little rifle into a do anything in North America combo.

What interests me about this round is its potential as a harder hitting subsonic round out of a short barreled, suppressed automatic rifle.
The one problem with 30 cal subsonics is the bullets just don't expand at all. A large 45 cal pistol bullet would solve all that.

A "short" .452 or .458 round has a lot of appeal to me - just not in an AR. Since civilians cannot own supressors, hi-cap mags, or hunt with restricted firearms, it's moot point for that platform. If you want one, then you should by one. If only for the reason "because you can.".

Fwiw 450 bush uses a heavily rebated rim to get it to 223 bolt diameter. 458 socom uses uncut 50 AE brass with the rim rebated to use 308 bolts.
Wondering if the Bushmaster/SOCOM rounds will fit in the new Surefire mags. Moot for us Canucks but for our free-er cousins =
they should fit in any standard AR mag, but I believe the follower is modified for reliable feeding.

The mag body remains unaltered. the follower could be changed but not sure if required. wuth these fat rounds, the mag becomes single stack.
I have owned 454 casulls, 50AE desert eagles, a competitor in 458 x 2"and other big bores, I like the cannons and figured since remington offers it in the R15 it may be fairly easy to get,but no luck yet.I spoke with a gentleman at accuracy international and they saidthey could convert a remington 7600,butvvery expensive.anyways just thought it would be fun.Nice to see others think the same.
If a gun manufacturer in Canada were to make a .458 socom ar pistol that was commonly available, then they could also have .458 10-round pistol magazines made specifically for it. Sure would sell a boat load of those magazines.
