Need some help fellas...........

Just got my first AR to the range a few weeks ago and I cant get her to functions with factory 223.... I put a few mags down range, she's sticking like crazy, I pass it to my buds kid.... he had now issue firing 20 rounds.... back to me.... sticking like crazy.:confused:

I'm over 6' and over 200lbs, he's shorter and half my size and it works flawlessly for him.

Whats the deal, should I be holding it softer, should I let it float in my hands.... whats your thoughts on what I,m doing wrong.

You know,,,,,,, sticking.....;)

Its not extracting the shells halft the time and when its returning, its sticking halfway open. Except when my buddy and his kid shoot it, it works for them. Then to add to the story, my freind has the exact same unit, (armalite M15, 10.5") and his does the same thing to me.

I know you love your gun, but you have to stop squeezing it to death. :p :)

It might help to know make, model, barrel length, type of BC group, ammunition used, etc.

You're really not saying much with "sticking like crazy". Failure to extract, ejection, jamming ... what?
 
Over feeding the mag? The carrier will drag on the top of the mag. If that's the case check your bolt catch to see if you didn't squish the spring over the plunger in the bolt catch well. ( the catch will be loose )

I did that on a course with a ####ty old steel USGI mag that was so worn the mag catch wouldn't stop it from going in further than it should.
 
So both of these rifles work for other shooters no problem but don't cycle properly when you shoot it?

If this is correct, try leaning into the rifle more. Maybe you are flinching and moving in anticipation of the recoil. This may slow down the moving parts enough to hang up.

Sound bizarre as these rifles should function just fine if you just held it in one hand BUT?????

OK, here the details....

Armalite M15 10.5" all factory except the stock and the troy break... ruag 63gr. ammo, standing at 25 and 50 yards... we used GI mags and LAR pistol mags. It works for the skinny kid and his dad who are both smaller than me. the other unit is the exact same, except a few years and 1500 rounds older, they both fire for everyone except me. They jam on the return of the bolt most of the time and some times fail to extract. I do have a love for short barrelled shotguns and slugs, so I do tend to squeeze the hell out of anything I shoot. Maybe I should soften up a bit... I also use a .22 conversion in it, that works like a hot damn...

This is my first AR platform,,, maybe I should just get use to it.

P.S.... I have shot every kind of semi you can think of and I have never had this issue.

Maybe your torquing the upper of the rifle while your firing... try shooting it one handed... shoulder the carbine, dominant hand on the grip, and nothing more... support hand away from the rifle... remember your just testing for function... point down range and fire a few rounds... In this instance, your holding the carbine by it's lower receiver components (butt and grip - possibly cheek weld....) see if it cycles... if it does, revert to your previous grip... if the rifle fails to cycle again, you are more than likely influencing it during your gripping process...

action spring out of spec?

torquing hand guards somehow causing gas tube to be affected?

did same person load the mags for both shooters?
