Hello guys, quick question here. I have a buddy who regularily takes his AR out to the range, shoots up some paper and then goes home. After spekaing to him, he's having issues with it not ejecting empties properly, and basically stove piping. Now, he doesn't clean it all the time, and maybe after two times at the range, that's when it starts jamming. Is this normal? it shouldn't be, I don't think I 've cleaned mine that well or that much and I haven't had that problem. Is there some thing we can try with cleaning or lubing up or something? Thanks.

Got any more info? What make of rifle? Factory gun or parts gun? What's the chamber cut to? 5.56 NATO or .223 Remington? What about the buffer spring? Factory or aftermarket overpower? Has he checked the extractor? Is the extractor original to the bolt or a replacement? Is the gun properly lubed? Has he checked for blockages in the gas tube? Are the bolt and carrier made by the same manufacturer?

Is it a Norinco?

A couple of thing to consider...If one cartridge has been fired and the other not, it sounds like a FtEx. This could be caused by a weak extractor spring or dirty chamber. This is especially critical in short barreled AR's due to the fast cycling time. If it is actually a FtEj, it could be caused by short stroking due to the bolt rings not staggered, partly blocked gas tube, ejector stuck, etc.

Is he shooting the 40 rounds per box of Winchester "White Box" .223 .45gr JHP? If so, that might be the cause. Just about everyone who's tried this in their AR have had stovepipes and/or failures to extract/eject.

I've NEVER had a FTF / FTE with the Win white box. I've fired over 1500 rnds of this stuff over the summer in my 3 AR's and it's worked perfect. Actually its mostly what I fire in my AR's. I would have bought more but it wasn't stocked anywhere so I just got 2500 of the Federal stuff from Wolverine.
However, that's not to say that your particular rifle likes that ammo....

Regards,

I am running a LMT 10.3. It eats everything 55 grain and above, but chokes horribly on 45 gr win white box 40 rnd bulk pack.

I use it as training....I mix a box of the 45 gr stuff in about 6-7 boxes of 55 gr win white box 50 rnd bulk packs....load the mag w/o looking.

then practive clearing the jams...I never know when.

Sorry to have taken so long guys. Here is some more info.

Armalite AR15A4
20 inch HB
shooting American Eagle 52gr I think.
don't know if its 5.56 or .223 barrel
Not a Norc
Not an Oly
He says he cleans it really well....I always see it very clean.

Is it new?
When my Armalite M15A4 was new, it did all kinds of poopy things. Plus it was bone dry. Its well broken in now, well cleaned and lubed, and runs like a top.

Makes ge glad i have a colt leo 6920 i can't make it jam . It will feed everything .But the first thing to do is clean the rifle and then try some other brand of factory ammo / bullet weight . If you still have trouble buy a new mag .

It is brand new and has seen probably about 1k rounds by now. Its always well cleaned because he's one of those ANAL kind of guys......lol........I know that's half of you guys, so you know who you are.

I'll mention to try new ammo and new mags. What are the chances that his brand new rifle needs a repalcement ejector spring already?
