AR lower

Is it correct that the lower is the part of a firearm that's registered?
If I buy the stripped lower of an AR-15, will I, as far as registration goes, own an AR-15?

My reason for asking is that my interest in black rifles is primarily political. I can't afford an AR-15 and anyway I'm not that interested in shooting one, but I do want to do my part to add to the number of AR owners and rifles, to strengthen our political position. The more the merrier.

Have I got this right? Forgive my ignorance, and can someone tell me where to get the cheapest stripped lower for an AR-15 that I will probably never build?

Yes, the lower is considered the firearm. Owning a stripped lower will make you an AR15 owner. Join the club and hats off to ya for doing so!

Once you own a lower, you may come across a pistol grip in a trade.. Then you may see a cheap stripped upper on EE... Oh look! There's a barrel on sale cheap! Before you know it, your build is complete and your bank account is screaming obscenities at you

In the beginning, I only got a gun because of what they did to Ian Thompson. I thought I'd buy a .22 and let it rust in the closet, because I had no interest in guns except to push back against the people who would take them and our freedom along with.

That was a little while and more guns than I ever imagined ago. So yeah, I'm familiar with the sickness.
