AR mag catch won’t engage mags

I’ve got a lower I bought a while back that I recently started to build on,but I’m having some issues with mags not seating properly in the rifle, more specifically the mag catch doesn’t seem to be engaging enough material on the mag to hold it.

I’ve tried a few mags, and most metal mags seem to be alright, but p mags won’t seat at all. Has anyone ever encountered this issue before and managed to solve it?

I was trying to find a mag catch that had s bit more depth into the magwell but can’t seem find anything.

What brand lower?

Can you post some pics?

Will they not catch when they are empty with just the lower (no upper installed) or are you trying to seat a full 5 rounds under a closed bolt? If it's the latter, your pmags could be pinned to exactly 5 instead of 5.5

It may not be the problem, but make sure you have the mag catch screwed all the way in until the thread is flush with the face of the button.

I’ll see if I can snap a few pics and upload them later,it’s an older billet NEA lower, had it built up once upon a time and ended up scrapping it and using the LPK I had on it on a aero lower, which I ended up selling later on.

All this is with empty mags,no upper attached, just function testing as I build

Weird thing is I never had this issue with the lower before I stripped it of parts, and I tried the exact same mag catch on another NEA lower I have(I bought a bunch when they switched to forged) and it’s works perfectly, and from what I can gather using my calipers all the dimensions are dead on.

The threaded end of the mag catch should be a little short of flush with the face of the mag release button. Check that first. Shouldn't be difficult to fix
