AR mag pinned too high

I have a few used 5-30 mags (made in Israel) that are supposedly pinned to 5 rounds. However, the pin is slightly high (~1-2 mm) compared to my other 5-30 mags, so that it is really hard to insert the 5th round. They are basically 4-round mags!

I'd like to try fixing them to have useable and legal 5-round mags. Anyone have experience doing this? I thought of temporarily removing the pin, taking our the follower and shaving a bit off the bottom of the follower, then re-pinning in the same hole on the mag body.

I had one Magpul AR10 holding 6 rounds, i trew it in the garbage since it would cost more to return it.

You can do what ever you you need to do to fix the mag. You just can’t reassemble it to hold more than 5 rounds. Shave the follower or move the pin to a new location.
Shaving the top of the plastic follower is the simplest operation, could use a dremel. But I am concerned about the plastic getting too thin. Thus I'm asking if anyone has actually fixed the same problem.

Is the mag riveted or pinned? Or does it have really long follower legs??

Is it the Israeli straight all plastic mags that look like a 20rd mag?
If so these use aren't pinned or riveted, they are manufactured with really long follower legs that bottom out early....and can simply be shortened to achieve the rd count desired

It is just a steel pin riveted to the steel case that sticks in about 1/2" so that the plastic follower is stopped from going beyond 5 rounds. It is a 5-30 mag, i.e. not straight.

Getting less than you bargained for with a product from Isreal? Colour me shocked lol
Sorry, couldn't resist that joke.

You can unpin them and re-pin them accordingly.
Why start messing with the follower if you can just pin them 5-7mm lower instead?

To get the follower out to dremel it you will have to remove the pin anyways. So if a new hole isn't too unsightly for you I would just reposition the pin. The rivet gun to do this and a bag of rivets are cheap.

Why 5.5? I have seen mags in Canada described as holding 5.9 rounds many times? Any particular reason you say 5.5?

That's just a general guide for people. You could do 5.9. The only minor issue is the unlikely event that if the materials wear a little over time your 5.9 round mag will hold 6 and then be illegal. Like I said though, that's relatively unlikely.
