Well, on day 4 I was invited by Hungry to shoot my AR instead of the M14, in order to familiarize myself with the drills using that platform for possible future teaching.
Big thing was mags..... in the 38 degree sun, and under a bit of stress from the drills, (nothing like real life deployment type stress of course) some mags perform better than others.
I know this is old ground for most of you, and I am saying what you already know, but here's what I found. PMAGS performed perfectly, no issues whatsoever, after being dropped repeatedly, stepped on, baked in the heat, etc.
LAR mags performed "so-so". Most of the time they worked, if I kept them out of the sun, but left to bake in the open, they started to malfuntion. Heat does something to the geometry of the feed lips or something.?
Plus they don't like it when Hungry stomps on them.
The regular aluminium mags are nothing more than lousy doorstops, and no more needs to be said about them.
Most mags are fine at the bench, in the shade, shooting at static targets, taking your time, always doing a mag change on an empty chamber.
After that, its PMAGS all the way! I'm looking for those "5.5" mags now!
haha!
