AR mags not dropping freely. Advice

Hey there

I have a pretty much unfired PWS MK114 that I shot for the first time. I love the feel, accuracy, everything but LARs, PMags, and other steel mags I have need a tiny bit of help to fall out. Should I just sand inside the magwell a bit?

The Pmags probably have a rivet sticking out the back that is rubbing on the magwell, you will probably see a dragline from it in the magwell. Just file the rivet down a little until it drops free or you can drill them out and countersink them, carefully.I use a 1/4" forstner bit in my drill press with the travel stop.
The LAR mags, I have had to massage GENTLY with a rubber mallet on the sides to get them to drop free.
I would not sand my magwell.
 
Depends where the mag is dragging. My PWS holds a couple of my mags but if filing the rivet down doesn't help I just accept that I need to pull them out. For me I don't care since I'm not competing and I don't let my mags fall free and hit the ground anyway. I like my mags clean and dent free.
If you compete and need them to fall free then only use the ones that fall free and save the others for when you're sitting at the bench. You could sand the inside of the magwell but then you're going through the protective coating and exposing the aluminum which may start to oxidize which could make them all tight and require you to sand it regularly.

Too many people worry about silly little things that they don't need to just because some GiJoe wanna be told them it's important. If you're not using the rifle in competition where speed is important or in a situation where you're defending lives then it really doesn't matter.
The more you use it the more it will wear in and those mags may start to drop free on their own.

Sand it down if you want to but decide first if you really need to modify your $2000 rifle.
 
If the rivets on your mags aren't countersunk enough just hit them with a file or Dremel tool until they drop free.

Sanding the magwell will remove the anodization.

Did you see my fancy shirt in my Avatar? :D Joking aside, yes I need the mags to drop free as you lose valuable time at matches. That's what I get for not going for the Stag Arms 3G instead. I have been lucky up until now with ARs that drop mags at he press of a button. I guess it's the tight tolerances on this beautiful piece. I don't really want to file or sand the inside. I guess I will work on the mags. Another plus for my Norinco AR which is still going strong thousands of rounds later and zero stoppages drops any mag easily.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Might have to keep this AR just for fun instead of matches.
 
It wasn't the mag catch it was just a little tighter tolerance on the mag well. After inserting the mags a hundred times they all drop free. Now I know the seller wasn't kidding when he called it like new. :D
 
PWS makes an outstanding rifle, the ones that are "cera-coated" That I have anything to do with are tight until the interior finish has been worn in.
Any in standard Anodized black I have not encountered any fit issues with other than what Sinista mentioned. They seem to come adjusted for Stanag type mags

Thank you. Yes I have the FDE one. Almost seems like the cera-coat is put over top of the regular black anodized coat. Best AR I have ever had!
