AR Mags, What ones work

This is my own opinion and others might disagree.
In Canada, NOTHING will beat the CP-LAR15-223-10 from Questar, NEVER had any problem since I bought them last year. You get the LEGAL full 10-round capacity vs. all the AR magazines you mentioned. Why? Those mags you can only load them legally to 5-rounds max. while the CP-LAR15 can be loaded max. 10-rounds legally.
You do the numbers :)
Just my 2-cents.

dude, if mag cap is lifted, I wont even look at those mags you mentioned, I'd go with snail/drum magazines. When I fantasize, I go all the way. :)
Seriously, C-product are good steel mags (I have a few of those before the 10-rounds pistol mag got legalized). For looks P-mags are ok (I dont like polymers), I am not sure about reliability. I have not use them. It's totally up to you what your preference in an AR mag.

PMAG's have a great review but keep in mind they will not fit all rifles that accept AR mags, so if it's for anything other than AR's do some search.

I have C-product, they are very nice steel mags, but heavier than aluminum ones, these are probably the best ones on the Canadian market.

I like the 20 round Colt mags (straight body), but dislike the 20 rounders that look like a cut down 30 round (curved body).

One big item to keep in mind is the follower, Magpul is a must in 30 rounders, any mag can be upgraded with these.

If the magazine limits were lifted I'd be the first Canadian to own a Beta C-Mag for my M1A. I'd order it the moment the ban was lifted. :dancingbanana:

I've had good luck with anything that is labelled "USGI"..I wouldn't even accept free USA brand mags for an AR. I've had Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, Labelle, Parsons, DPMS, C-Products and a couple of other USGI mags and never had a problem with any one them. There is a magazine quality chart listed on www.ar15.com somewhere that might be of help to you. Look under the section for magazines and you'll be amazed at how much information is listed.

Keep in mind if your going to get the C Products "lanced" magazines (which are pinned to 5 by two dents in each side of the magazine that they will be harder to unpin to 30 rounds than a rivited magazine would be. You'll either have to bend the tabs out from the outside which can be hard, cut the tabs off leaving holes for dirt and guck to get into or break the follower and bend the tabs from the inside and then replace the follower. However I guess my last point is null because I doubt that these days anyways the magazine cap will be lifted. That being said I love my 5/30 C Products for whenever I am standing up, but bench or prone work get the 10 rounders.

FWIW, I can't justify spending money on a nutered 5/30 round magazine for $35 that can be had in the US for $10 when I can get a legal 10 round magazine now for $25. Take it for what you will, I have enough 5/30's to keep me happy.

Why would anyone want a 30 rnd mag pinned to 5? I want a functional 10 before a lookalike wannabe 30. Function over form.
