I really want to get into the world of AR's but im having trouble deciding the best route to take? I'd like a 11.5"or 14" upper and I'd also like to get Magpul accesories like Miad grip and all the rest, so my question is would it be better to just buy one someone has already tricked out or should i build my own from the ground up? Will it cost me alot more than $2000 to build a nice looking CQB AR or do I buy a used one? Also how many rounds out of a used one would you recommend staying away from? 1000? 2000? I dont know like i said im a noob and would like to not spend too much more than $2000. Thanks for your time

What kind of shooting do you want to do? Distance? Size of target? From what position? Optics or not?

As far as round count goes, get as high as you can, so long as you are paying an appropriate price for it. A rifle with 5K rounds through it will have lots of life left in the barrel, and a trigger/bolt carrier that is polished.

The choice is yours, but considering that spring seems to be here, I'd say buy a good quality AR right now. Get one with a basic setup. Learn how to use it. Have fun with it, and build your "Dream Rifle", as your time and $ permit. There's no way you'll be satisfied with just one anyway.

I was in the same position as you, and had some of the same questions. The shopping around and waiting was agonizing, but in the end it was worth it. I was able to find a Armalite 14" upper with quad rail hand guard, forward grip, flashlight, and removable carry handle for $1000.00. It hat about 500 rounds through it. Then the lower; I wanted to find a Armalite lower so the upper would match. However prices for complete Armalite uppers was $575.00 new from Wolverine, or up to 800.00 with the magpul butt stock and grip. I ended up on the Questar website, I liked the Spikes lower, they were priced at $400.00 for a complete unit 6 to 8 week wait. I didn't want to wait, I ordered a stripped Spikes lower with a Questar telescoping butt stock and Trigger package. It arrived within a week and I was able to put it together myself for $430.00.
It took about 1hr to assemble, everything matched up perfectly, function checked and took to the range. I've put 200 rnds through and haven't had a single malfunction yet. I enjoyed putting together the lower, and learned how the rifle worked. $1430.00 total. That was the route that I ended up taking, and I'm very happy with the end result.

I bought my first AR15 new and built my second one myself after accumulating parts over a couple years, it worked out great for me.
