In a wonderful turn of events, my EXPS-2 fell under the Eotech refund window. I submitted my claim, but did not have a receipt. As such, they're "only" willing to refund me the MSRP of $579 USD, which works out to about $765 CAD. I paid less than that three years ago for my Eotech, so that sounds like a good deal to me.

Now, I didn't dislike my Eotech; I actually loved it. I don't have lots of experience with different optics, but my Eotech did me just fine. The thing is, I've now built an SBR, and weight is something that I have to contend with. The DDMK18 upper isn't exactly slim and lean, so I'm more conscious of all the goodies I've been strapping onto it. Eotechs are more or less bricks with windows on top of the gun.

I'm not military or LE, so my life doesn't depend on an optic, but I do believe in "buy once, cry once". I pondered going to a vortex optic, but I'd rather just buy something solid and hope it outlasts me.

It sounds like Aimpoint is still the pinnacle of red dots, and the T1/T2 are pretty damn small and would probably suit my needs. So, here are the details, and my requirements:

Rifle- BCM mod 0 lower, DDMK18 upper
Uses- Carbine courses and range fun

Requirements:

- Lightweight
- Not junk
- Low maintenance (in terms of batteries, etc)
- MUST full co-witness with BUIS

Am I on the right path with the T1/T2? Is the trijicon MRO worthy of a look? Am I missing anything?

I also refunded my Eotech. I was so used to the large window that a Aimpoint micro, to me, is like looking through a tube.

I got the MRO and have never looked back.

FOV is a non issue if you shoot with both eyes open and focus on the target.

I have 3 Aimpoints now, 2 PRO's and a T2. Never has a single issue. Had an MRO for a while but it wasnt what people make it out to be so I sold it...lol..

If you want small, reliable and don't mind the cost Aimpoint is your friend. I've stuck with EoTech on my full sized carbines and remain happy. They still hit what I'm aiming at, and the 65 MOA donut of death is sooooooo fast for CQB.

Does anyone have any input on running a Trijicon RMR on their rifle?

I have a glock with the slide cut for one, and it might be cool to be able to have an optic that I could use for either. I'm just not sure how useful it would be on an AR

I have run an RMR on an AR and it currently sits on my PS90 shorty. I love it. I didn't like it on a pistol. I found it slower than the traditional sights. I'm sure with a lot of practice, that could change. But expect a learning curve.

If you want small and light, the t1/2 is the best choice i think, admitedly i have very little experience with them. I didnt like the aimpoint PRO at all because of the damn diode reflection i would get so i went back to a newer eotech (used to have a '05 vintage 512 and now have a '15 exps3).

I would love to try a rmr or other mini rds on my ar one day especially the mrds

Right now I think the MRO is the front runner because of the FOV. The RMR would be neat, but it sounds like it requires pretty precise alignment/cheek weld. Eotechs are nice because it feels like they're a lot more forgiving in that regard. One thing turning me off of the T1/T2 is the small FOV tube effect.

FOV is a non-issue with the T2, as your other eye provides a complete sight picture. For those not familiar with the T2, Aimpoint recommends you close the opaque front cap while shooting, until you are used to it. It's perfectly usable even when you can't see through it at all. This is what DILLIGAF was pointing out above.

yup! if you shoot like a normal person with both eyes open the MRO or T2 will be the exact same. FOV is just a sales pitch...lol...

But I cant wait to see the Gen 2 MRO's :)

FOV is INFINITE if you keep both eyes open and stop looking at the reticle. STARE AT THE TARGET. The MRO does have two ideal eye relief distances, I found the fisheye effect to be very distracting and caused my eyes to water. I love Trijicon products but the MRO is a lemon at this point due to the magnification/fisheye effect.

Just get the H1/H2 and save yourself a hundred bucks or so. They're the exact same as the T series just not Night optic compatiable and have a slightly less submersion depth. Which as stated, you're not taking down any oil platforms in the Caspian Sea so I'm sure the H series would do everything you need it no and nothing you don't, for slightly cheaper.

I think FOV was the improper term to discuss what I meant.

I have a TRS-25 on my SKS, and if I don't look through it at precisely the right angle, the dot disappears. If my head is not in the perfect spot, the dot is invisible. My Eotech doesn't have that issue, and it seems like the MRO is more forgiving than the T1/T2 in that regard. I'm unsure about the RMR

I prefer the T1 for its its size, with my eyes both open and focusing at the target , the sight slim body doesnt cover or obstuct my vision, you wont even notice the presence of the sight. just the target and dot, this is because the glass is daylight clear and scope size is minimal, always wondering why some prefer a wider glass or scope, for FOV? The T1 will get you that FOV, just dont look at the target and superimposed the dot on target with both eyes open and there will be no tube effect.
