I just got my Stag and Id like to put some kind of tactical type sight on it. I like the ones on the Canadian Forces rifles, can anybody get them, if not whats the next best thing?

optics

Trijicon ACOG series, Aimpoint ML3's, Elcan's, Eotech 552. There are soo many to choose from. AR15.com has a thread on the different ones and the +/- of each. you can also use the search feature on CGN to dig up some info as well.

I'm a big fan of the Nightforce 2.5x10 NXS series of scopes. I have two; one with the mildot reticle (AR) and one with the NPR reticle (SIG)

I have an Elcan, and really like it. However, there are NUMEROUS reports of failures with the mount.

For a range queen and civvie use, I think it's a very good optic. As KevinB said though, NOBODY who has the choice over in the sandbox uses one.

If I had the money, I'd get an ACOG in an instant.

Agreed! I didn't have enough money, so I bought an Aimpoint instead. But no regrets here, I'll just have to take some time and save up for the ACOG.

I've never carried a rifle for a living but my ELCAN has seen the range, 3 gun and tac rifle shoots and has always done well for me right out to 500m. No problems with holding zero either.

For a range gun I think they're great.

ACOG all they way. Internal adjustment mechanism, dual, battery redundant illumination, awsome sight picture and tough as hell. I'd recommend the TA31 series.

Have had an Aimpoint, Eotech, Elcan and an ACOG. The ACOG is my favorite by a fair margin. Very nice optics (I have the one with the Dr. Optic backup).

i have the old (C79) and the new (SpecreDR) elcans. the new one is really bright, and the choice of dot, crosshair or no illumination is nice.

turn up the brightness on the dot at 4x and shoot two eyes open for close, then look through for distance shooting.
