Going to get another AR, something a bit better than my current Norinco.
Looking at spending somewhere between 1-1.5k. I’m looking for a 14 or 16” barrel with a full length flat top hand guard. Some of the options on the radar are the Diamondback, FNH, Stag, or Sig (top end of budget).
Just curious if anyone had any other suggestions or experiences with any of those. Right now, the diamondback is appealing with the lower price and still US made.

Heard Black Leaf has an offering for the $1,500 is price point and their upper and lowers are made in Canada, have yet to see one though.

Out of those choices... Stag. 6920 would be a better choice than all.

FNH uses cheap parts in their civilian rifles such as the 4140 barrel.

Edit: Colt has some great specs but if you care at all about finish or warranty then go with Stag.

You should check out some 6920s in person.

I maintain that the two uppers I have for sale in the EE are superior to anything available in a store-bought AR15 in Canada. Just add a lower with parts of your choosing and you'll have a wicked rifle.

Question for the '6920' peeps... what in the rifle outshines other, similar in quality rifles? Is it the whole thing, specific parts (im guessing the barrel), etc?

Cheers

I have yet to get my hands on a Colt product or part that wasn't absolutely flawless. Not saying they don't have lemons, but I have yet to experience one.

Maybe it's Kool-Aid, but for the price point, why go with another when you can go for an item which will A) be reliable B) sell quickly and with minimal depreciation on the EE?

And for the record, I think you can build a phenomenal rifle for $1000-1500. All parts priced and specc'd from Saskatoon Gun Works. All parts are Aero Precision, except the barrel.

Stripped lower: $100
Stripped slickside upper: $100
LPK: $100
Ballistic advantage barrel (16", 5.56 NATO, M4 profile): $170
Lo-pro gas block: $40
Gas tube: $20
Carbine buffer tube assembly: $70
A2 birdcage w/ crush washer: $15
Dust cover assembly: $25
Raptor charging handle: $80
M4E1 Gen 2 Free Float Handguard MLOK: $200 (not my personal choice but whatever)
Aero bolt carrier group: $180

For $1100 plus HST, you have a nearly entirely Aero Precision rifle that you will have built yourself. And you can do a whole lot better than $200 for handguards.

They may function flawlessly but some QC on the finish would go a long way.
