Foxbat - I couldn't disagree with you more on all points. I bought a Norc AR clone from Dark for $500 - it was a great gun...never had one problem. not sure why people bash Norinco's so much:confused: , if you don't like em and have the cash, pay three times the price and get a bushmaster...but I know I don't have that kind of cash.....:(

That being said I sold it for $800 to buy a Cz-58. I like the 7.62x39 round much better (for many reasons) and it is a much more compact than the Norc. It's quite accurate and there are beginning to be more aftermarket parts available...although in stock configuration it is a lot of rifle for the money.

That's why they call them "opinions'!;)

I think both are very nice Firearms! The Ar is very Cool, but it is restriced, the cz is non restricted, you can go in the bush and shoot anything! the AR is only the Range(Boring) imho, Go for the CZ !

I have had two Ar's and they were great.I got tired of all the BS
about when and where you can take them.Bought a CZ 858,
got some mods that work for $82.00 from Infratek in BC
direct swap and a big difference in stability which will equate
to better accuracy.The plus is you can take it anywhere and it
works great on coyotes.Other option is as others have said is buy both.LOL 375rum

I have owned, and currently have two AR's...no one's battery would be complete without one...
Having said that, for versatility and 'bang for the buck', you can't beat the 858!
I resisted buying one until recently, but after trying one..wouldn't be without it!
If budget and 'all round use' is the prime determinat...go with the CZ.

Where did you get yours from?

I voted AR. But really, I should have said "neither." The whole restricted bit just kills tha AR's appeal to me, and the CZ is just an SKS in prettier furnature.

Get a black Special. Or maybe an SL-8. Or perhaps an FS2000 (with the NR barrel, natch)

The Liberal Party of Canada is holding its' Liberal Leadership and Biennial Convention in Montreal from November 28th to December 2nd. Two of the policy resolutions to be debated and voted upon are very relevant to firearm owners.

It will be interesting to see how they are dealt with. But, regardless, it shows that the federal Liberals have not changed their mindset regarding firearms ownership in Canada.

Resolution #42: Automatic and Semi-automatic Weapons
WHEREAS automatic and semi-automatic weapons are illegal for hunting purposes; and

WHEREAS automatic and semi-automatic weapons do not support the hunting culture found in all parts of Canada;

BE IT RESOLVED that the Liberal Party of Canada urge the Government of Canada to support legislation to eliminate the personal use of automatic and semi-automatic weapons.

Resolution #47: Gun Control
WHEREAS the cancellation of the gun registry is part of the Conservative Party’s program; and

WHEREAS the Conservative government has started to slash into the registry by ending requirements to register long guns; and

WHEREAS police forces have continually supported the gun registry and spoken out against efforts by the Conservative government to weaken or end it; and

WHEREAS the continued support of police forces for a total gun registry is a strong indication of the capacity of the current system to reduce the harm caused by guns; and

WHEREAS certain dangerous weapons are not found on the current list of illegal weapons; and

WHEREAS it is necessary to continue to effectively control the possession and use of guns;

BE IT RESOLVED that the Liberal Party of Canada take the necessary steps:

1. to counter the efforts by the Conservative government to end or reduce the scope of the current gun registry that was enacted by parliament several years ago;

2. to review the classification of guns so that semi-automatic weapons be classified as an illegal weapons; and

3. to enact more severe laws to better control the possession and use of guns.
