AR part import questions

Hi all,

I'm new to the AR field and am looking to do a scratch build. I'm still in the planning stages right now, so I thought I would ask a couple of quick questions to those here on the forums with more experience in the matter.

1) what parts can I import from the USA? I know that lowers are a no go, but what about the rest of the build?

2) if I am legally allowed to import, what are some good vendors in the US

3) if I can't import parts, where are the best places to order through in Canada

4) any suggestions on a build? Things to look for and things to avoid


For the record, I'm planning on sticking with iron sights for now. Also I would like to make it as inexpensive as possible ($1000-$1200 range). Chambered in 5.56 or .223

The limitations on getting stuff from the US are export restrictions, not importation....

I've had good results with ordering some stuff (not necessarily AR bits) from Brownell's as well as Frontier firearms, Questar and One Shot Tactical in Canada.

I agree, some stuff can be easily found on EE, just search AR-15 or AR15 on Exchange of parts and accessories for Modern Military and Black Rifles forum.
