Yeeeha! Buy an AR reciever registered as a pistol and you get to use ten rounders! I have one already on order. Thanks Mark!

Edited to say: Yes I realize this has not been fully approved. Kudos to Mark at Questar though for getting it this far.

Doesn't work that way. ONLY AR15 lower that can use 10rd mags is the Oyl Glock Lower (becuase its uses 10rd mags) and you gotta use the moded upper for it. Becuase I built a AR15 9mm and there are only 3 mags you can use. Sten, Uzi and Colt SMG mags. They will be STILL 5rds only becuase whats stopping you from putting them in a Colt 9mm SMG, Uzi or Sten?

I still could only use 5rd mags.

Somebody will need to explain this one to me. Guns don't have a magazine capacity limt, the mags themselves do. That a magazine happens to fit a particular gun is immaterial. The act makes reference to the magazine, being designed for or manufactured for ###x. That the CFC have pulled thier heads out of there asses long enough to recognize that a pistol magazine is limited to 10 and not five is wonderful. However, do we also have a magazine for that gun that they will accept as having been designed or manufactured for a pistol? That would be great.

If that's the case, we'll be seeing a large number of 10 round pistol mags ordered. (Truckload sale anyone!!!)

Is that right eh?
From the Questar website:

The CFC has classified the LAR-15 Pistols as "Restricted Handgun" and has issued FRT registrations allowing for the use of 10 round magazine capacity (9mm) and 9 round magazine capacity (.223). This would only apply to magazines manufactured and stamped for use with the LAR-15 Pistol. This decision is now under review by the RCMP and a final decision is pending. We believe there is a good chance that the 9mm Pistols will end up allowing for a 10 round mag capacity... the decision on the .223 is a toss-up right now. We should know more in the next week or so.

Okay so there is a AR15 out there that uses special mags then. Diddnt have them when I built my AR so. Those were the 3 choices of mags I had to pick from.

No Robert. It's not because it's a "special" mag. It's because the AR is being manufactured as a pistol, and we all know pistol mags can hold ten rounds.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see the 5 round limit changed to 10 across the board, both for handguns and semi auto rifles. This may just be a recognition of the 'new reality' about to be implemented ...

So by putting a buttstock on it then should void it being a pistol...

Even if the Ar is classed as a pistol would the magazines not have to be sold specifically for it, or with it?

A recent CFC ruling to Beretta Storm owners suggests that their Storm marked (rifle) mags need pinning but makes no mention of the use of otherwise identical M92 mags in the carbine.

IOW, the markings on the mags define whether it is for a pistol or a rifle ... and pistol mags can legally hold 10 rounds.

Does attaching the buttstock to my Mauser Broomhandle make it a rifle? No.

Neither will attaching a buttstock to this AR pistol ...

Looking at the RRA website the mags just look like uzi and regular AR15 mags to me, Whats stopping me from getting them and slapping them in my colt 9mm and m4?
