can this be done? should this be done? it seems that sometimes, most often with the first round of a mag, the cartridge fails to slide up the ramp, the bolt doesn't even reach its detents for the forward assist, it only moves 1/4" and the fmj bullet tip hits just below the feed ramp. has anyone made these a little lower, and bigger etc.? i know its a hot topic on 1911's, but i never hear about this sort of thing with AR's, my old sp1 had this problem sometimes, and this one seems to be as well. these are handloads im using, just seating the bullet to factory lengths/crimping groove on a 55gr fmj bt. the right side seems to happen more frequently.. its an m16 bolt and carrier if it matters, any insight?

i have a little round file in my hand, but i figured i'd wait and ask u guys..

oh yeah i forgot to ad, most of the time, not just some of the time, i have a real hard time ejecting a full cartridge, like i've been in the habit of running a few rounds through the gun to check if my sizing etc is good with regards to my reloads, the rounds drop in the chamber on there own, dont need to be pushed, but i have a read hard time pulling the bolt back and ejecting a full round. this is also the case with factory ammo.. the upper has only had a couple hundred rounds through it

I would leave them alone. As far as your feeding issues it could be magazines - try different one. You are not using a M4 upper with rifle feedramps in the barrel extension.

i have tried 3 different types of mags, same results, im starting to a shiney spot just below the feed ramps, on the upper, where the tips are hitting. and the bottom part of the tips, on a lot of the rounds i've run through it have flat spots on 'em, if i keep forward pressure on the mag, they seem to feed better. same with all types of mags i've used, even the teflon coated ones with the green followers.
