I feel dumb for having to ask some of the following questions, but I figure its better to be educated than to be included in the ignorant mass.

1) In regards to a locked and secured complete AR15; is a cable lock through the magwell and out the ejector port suffice, or is a trigger lock arbitrarily required?

2) LAR mags- I assume these bad boys are still legal? If so, could someone link me to the bulletin that I could print out for proof?

3) 6.8 SPC fits in 7.62x39 magazines, correct? Are there any magazines out there that allow more than 5 rounds of 6.8?

Sorry for all the stupid questions.

I'm only gonna anwer one point and leave the AR specific questions for those that have/shoot them.

Trigger lock or Cable lock is a personal preference. Both are legal.

Several Forum Sponsors sell 10 pound pistol mags for the 7.62x39 XCR-L Pistol. These will fit in an AR, and work fine for 6.8SPC.

Unless you have a billet lower, I have found it very easy to unlatch the trigger guard and pull the lock off. I use a cable lock through the mag well.

Doesn't matter, you're locking it for the legality of it not to disable it. A set of cutters will get rid of a cable and a butter knife can open a trigger lock. Plus, since it's a restricted rifle we're talking about a thief would have also just broken into your safe or locked case, no trigger lock or cable is going to stop them once they've gone that far.
As long as it's locked you're legal. If for any practical reason I would say it helps keep kids from messing with it but in my opinion if you have guns and you have kids you need to educate them more than you need to childproof things. My daughter has owned her own 22 single shot since she was 7 and from day one I've taught her that it isn't a toy and that she is not allowed to touch it unless I'm there to supervise and help her.

Don't worry about what's better, just what you have and what's legal.

I agree with you that it's certainly the spirit of the law, but in the same vein, I have a lever action that when opened, would allow you to remove the lock no problem, no tools required. I have since bought a safe, and so the lever no longer gets locked. What I used to do was wrap a cable around the stock through the lever... I doubt one would ever be penalized, but given the nebulousness of our laws, I tend to try and remove any doubt (the law states "attach a secure locking device so that the firearm cannot be fired") Anyways, back to the topic at hand...
