Hello, I am starting my first AR build and i was wondering what are the best options for the following,
-adjsutable butstock
-Grip for some one with smaller hands
-barrel length, pretty sure on the 14.5 but any suggestions?

as well as good places to buy, these, wither side of the boarder, I relized i will need to get the barrel in canada and that Wolverine or stag arms is the best place,

cheers,
gavin

The Stock A2 grip is the smallest you can get out there IMHO.
STAG ARMS is a brand of lower which Dangertree(here) sells for 215.00 believe they are waiting more stock.
Wolverine sells Eagle Arms and Out of stock as well, they go for around 238.00
Only other choice is Dlask ARMS, They should have some in Stock.

I would get 16" you can still do CQB but you still maintain accuracy and velocity.

Regarding the barrel length, let me know if you can find any new factory barrels less than 16". I have heard the US is no longer allowing anything lower than 16" to leave the country.
As for stocks go to the parts exchange forum. Someone's always got some for sale. If you like the solid non-adjustable look but need something shorter, you can get a chopped LE stock.
The grips are tiny on ar's. I am new to them and I find myself readjusting my trigger finger because you can almost wrap it around the trigger.

Welli already have a full length 20" Norinco AR. I wouldliek to build a carbine, possible for IDPA 3 gun shoots, but mostly jsut for fun, and the lookin cool factor, plus in building my own AR i can learn tons about the gun.

thats all, i was thinking, 14.5, but does 16 provide better accuracy? well i mean that much?

thanks,
gavin

I think the 14.5" barrel is a good choice, but don't think you would go wrong if you tripped over a 16 incher in your hunt for parts.
I believe the Tangodown 'battle' grip is smaller than the A2 (and probably the smallest you'll likely find)
I recommend the Stag lower, have two myself. Put RRA lower kits in them without a hickup.
RRA 6 position stock would be about the cheapest adjustable stock to go with, and work just fine.

other recommendations:
Get a flat top upper for sure.
If you like iron sights, get a bolt on carry handle or back-up sight. Stick to traditional handguards for the time being.
Get stuff gently used at a decent deal -check, and be current with what new sells for -to ensure you keep your shirt on.
keep the first build ####-simple, go shooting, enjoy, and think about all the bolt on freddygofaster gear later.

Spending $4000 to build up an AR you fondle watching Blackhawk Down is insane....;)

Thanks for allthe good advice, I didnt want to go with a stock A-2 grip unless ihad too but now at least i have some options.

And beltfd, thank you, i was not planning on going all out on my first build and i think i have definaletly decided on a stag lower, and either a 14.5 or 16" barrel on a flat top upper. Now that being said i am not ina hurry to buy my stuff and will be starting to buy in January, and i am away at sea for work until the end of March, So i will have 3 good months to get everythig. So anybody got a flat top upper? a spare barrel laying around let me know,

cheers!

Hey guys, I have a few more questions after doing a bit of research,

Now I have decided on the 14.5inch barrel but, I would like to know the difference between,

M15A2 14.5 Stepped
M15A2 16 Stepped
M15A2 16 Hbar/short HG

I know Hbar is heavy barrel, but whats Stepped and whats HG?

Now for the Lower parts kit, Is getting the kit with the NM trigger worth the extra bones? (2-stage triggar) I mean I can see me wanting that up grade in the future but is it worth the extra 120 bucks for the lower kit? I mean I am not swat right?

I think I have decided on a Stag lower, but for the upper I want a flat top,
What is a
M15A2 Stripped upper M4 Feed Ramp
M15A4 Stripped Upper M4 Feed Ramp,,,,, are these flat tops?

Flat top Upper Right HD-stripped
Flat top Upr T Mks-Right HD-stripped,,, whats T Mks???

As well, what all parts do I need to build an upper? Barrel, receiver, bolt,,,,,,,,fwd sites?, fwd assist??

Please some help?

Thanks a lot guys,
gavin

Stepped refers to the barrel having what's known as an M203 step cut. If you log onto AR15.com and check out the "M4 Picture Thread" in their AR Discussions, you'll see what I mean. It's a cutout portion of the barrel that gives the M203 a secure place to mount to the barrel, without moving.

The HG there refers to the length of the handguards. In this case, "Short" makes reference to a carbine length gas system, and thus carbine length handguards.

I have no experience with NM triggers.

M15A2 uppers have a fixed carry handle, with A2 sights. The M15A4 upper is a flattop upper.

I have no idea what T Mks Right would be referring to.

To make a complete upper, you'll need a Forward Assist, Spring, and pin, Port door kit (Door, bar, spring, and C clip), barrel w/ barrel nut (Comes that way from Armalite, as I assume you're looking at Wolverine.), Delta Ring assembly, gas tube, gas tube pin, set of Carbine Handguards, flash-hider and crush washer. Also a bolt carrier, complete bolt (or ejector, ejector spring, extractor, extractor spring and pin, as well as little insert, gas rings x3), firing pin, cam pin, and the little crosspin. Gas key as well, if it's not already on the carrier (Don't know where you'd get one without it..)

Also, carry handle if you want to go that route, or a nice EoTech or Aimpoint, ACOG, etc.

Please, someone fill in if I missed anything.

Thanks alot, i love this page, you pretty much answered everything, and yes i am looking at wolverine and armseast,

thanks guys!!!! If anyone has anything else to add, please do!!!!

cheers,
gavin
