I got a new CMMG upper that I'm trying to put a troy rail onto, but not getting any success.. Looks like the barrel nut that came with the cmmg upper is just too wide and the rail just won't slip on. Can someone do a quick measurement for a standard AR-15 Barrel nut, interested in the od? Thanks in advance.

Put a heat gun to the end of the handguard? That's what my BCM handguard instructions said to do to ease installation.

It's not stiff, it's just being blocked at the beginning of the nut.. I'll play with it tonight, make sure I'm orienting the wedges correctly and work from there. Thanks for the tip though, it's on the list for sure :)

Here is the barrel nut in question (it's on a 22lr upper):

And here's the tube.. Am I orienting the wedges wrong? If I go the other way, the hole is too far to the front of the handguard, can't even get the screw in... Flipping it over doesn't seem logical, but I'm fresh out of ideas other than trying to source a milspec barrel nut....

Tried heating the end of the tube but I think the wedges are sticking out too far. The barrel nut is definitely 1.365" in diameter, just re-measured.

Thanks! Friggin CMMG... They even told me that they use a standard barrel nut for these uppers... Any place in the GTA where I can source one or do I have to order online? Who carries them?

Thanks... Been a while since I've freefloated my CORE15. While I could get the barrel nut back from the person I gave my 223-related spare bits and pieces to, they're out of the country for another couple of weeks and I've been waiting on this build for too long for a cheap part to stop me now. Do you guys know of any brick and mortar places in the GTA that would carry a standard barrel nut or a quick-shipping sponsor?

Troy used to use their own unique style of barrel nut for their rails. You appear to have one of their early styles that uses a non milspec barrel nut.

The new Troy rails use a standard milspec barrel nut. That cmmg nut you have is neither.

If you are patient, and have a troy barrel nut wrench for their unique style, you can use the wrench as a template and file a milspec's teeth into shape. Trial fit with the nut. And with the rail.

Finding a Troy early nut is difficult. Ask me how I know filing will work.

Sorry man, it sucks there aren't anywhere in the GTA that carries AR parts other than furniture. Maybe try giving Target Sports a shout? If I had one kicking around, I'd help ya out. Sorry mate.

Thanks Jager PM sent, itchy EMT trigger-finger :D

Fenceline: This one came without a barrel nut and it was a brand new purchase, ordered from Rouge River and they had to order it in from the distributor, so definitely not stale stock

Thanks for the good thoughts Trinimon. Funny part is that a month ago I gave my bag of spare parts to a buddy who'll inherit my 223 upper, but he's snowbirding it and won't come back for a couple of weeks. Since I will be moving soon, I wanna make sure I have my 22lr build dialed in so I can start shooting matches as soon as my guns get released back to me by the destination country's equivalent of the CFO.

Jager already checked in, so we're on. It's about 200km iirc (been a while since I went riding in those parts), so with a bit of luck I may even finish the build this week and sight it in on Sunday :)

Haha. He did too haha. I didn't even realize it was his EE post, just the location.

Glad your gonna get your gun on.

Thanks... Been waiting for the upper for over 2 months.. The tube arrived last week.. Rockin' an Ace skeleton stock, Hogue grip, S3G trigger and a Deltapoint (since my shooting will be at 90yds or less). Running a Miculek comp for the looks ;) Supposed to be my race gun for IPSC mini-rifle matches and wanted to complete the build while I still had a reliable supply of AR parts. Once I move to South America, Brownells will be my only option.
