Hello everyone,

While reading up on Armalites in general here is a controversial topic. AR mags:

Basically there are various types but for the standard 30 rnd mags there are Contract military and aftermarket mags. It is always said that milspec mags are much better, more consistent manufacturing. Now within these 2 groups there are aluminum mags and steel mags. lets forget about thermo molds and etc.

Traditional Colt mags are aluminum.

Singapore, Taiwan and the UK make steel mags. Does anyone have any of these mags and are they better than the aluminum? What are the pros and cons?

I dont think one ounce is going to make a difference in terms of weight per mag...

Singapore, Taiwan and the UK make steel mags. MILSPEC for thier military and contract to others.

I talk to a guy in the states and he said that Milspec is the best. The tolerancing must be top knotch. There are alot of non Milspec mags and they are hit and miss. I would assume that H&K would have the best tolerancing for their stuff, especially at the price they charge.

I have both steel and alloy AR mags the steel mags function great these are the new SA80 mags the only down side is that they are heavy and hurt my toes when I drop the mag .As far as mags rusting goes if you let your mags get rusty then you are not taking care of your rifle :!:
